I normally change car every 3 years but am thinking of keeping my D4 for an extra 12 months, it's in great condition with 20k on the clock and has been trouble free. I was wondering if it's worth getting an extended warranty for the final 12 months and would appreciate the opinions of those that have/haven't. Thanks in advance.

A warranty is there to protect against major incident - gearbox, engine, diff failure etc. As long as your service record has been bang on time (or almost) then its worthwhile, if not they will wriggle with all their might as it is not Land Rover who underwrite the policies, it is a third party. If it's Land Rover Approved warranty in my experience it is as good as the first 3 years. We took out an extra year's LR Approved warranty when we bought SWMBO's RRS, which was 5 years old and 40K miles at the time - I had a couple of claims over the 2 years and no troubles at all with attempted wriggling.
At your age and mileage I don't think it would apply but don't get confused with the lesser warranty (called Select or something like that ISTR) - which is not the same beast at all.

When I bought my D3 (16 months ago, at c.39k miles) I took out the full Warranty (ie Land Rover Assured) for three years. Apparently, if it is under the 100k threshold when you take out the warranty, provided you pay up front (and it is transferrable) then it is covered until the time limit expires, irrespective of mileage. Also includes Land Rover Assist and MOT insurance - last year I had front lower wishbones and one of rear replaced, plus a brake caliper and ARB bushes on this.
45k later (ie last week) I had my 3rd wheel bearing/hub replaced with no hassles. However, and as already stated, it is primarily for when the engine/gearbox goes bang. If that doesn't happen (I'll be close to 200k by then) I'll have maybe recovered 60-70% (if not more) of my investment
Having said that, you need a supportive garage to make the claim on your behalf - Lloyds in Carlisle were about as usefull as a chocolate teapot when it came to this, whereas Morrisons in Stirling ware excellent Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE
