Thatcham category 2
What do I need to do to achieve this?
It seems it is a requirement to get an insurance with the D3It takes all sorts (to make a world).

Never had a problem with the alarm requirements for insuring a D3, bog standard alarm seems fine.

Cat 2 is the immobiliser side of a alarm system, you can get a alarm cat 2 but for ease just the immobiliser side is fine. You need a approved certificate to show the insurance companies. Used to fit autowatch systems and these were very reliable. Can put you in touch with someone if needed. 2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

Thanks so I guess it is because it is not an UK car
Would be good to have a contact
Is that likely to be expensive to do and how long does it take to do it?
It seems that Discos are at very high risk to be stolenIt takes all sorts (to make a world).

Sorry for the delay Riccardo, It could be if its not a UK car as the std alarm systems from other countries vary, to be honest i don't know if LR change them from country to country but i know other manufactures do.
It should not be to expensive, when i worked for a certain stereo company in T Wells we were charging 169.90 fitted. In general most cars can be done in a few hours, but i don't know what he charges now, he is mobile so he can do it at yours or i presume depending where you are you could take it to him, he works from home but I'm sure you could hang around why he does it.
PM me as i don't know about posting company stuff up on the forum so just want to be safe 2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

Little update which might be useful also for others (and again thanks to everybody for the responses)
Adrian Flux has decided that Land Rover Discovery 3 sold outside UK do not have the same alarm system as UK cars (when I ask how they can say that they said to me to trust them as they known it ). So in their view UK cars get a Thatcham 2 immobilizer minimun while ex UK needs to have one installed as it is not standard.
They want me to prove that I have had a Thatcham 2 immobilizer installed.
So Land Rover confirmed that all cars will have the same standard immobilizer even if sold LHD in EU
Interestingly my car (as also proved by an email with an official statement from Land Rover who has done a search with the VIN on their database) came original with a Thatcham 1 system already installed.
I hope that I will be able now to convince Adrian Flux as they keep on asking me to prove I have installed a Thatcham 2 immobilizer despite all the explanation and also emails from Land RoverIt takes all sorts (to make a world).

Whilst I can't confirm whether JLR fitted a cat 1/2 immobiliser to your vehicle I can say that most manufacturers do not fit immobilisers to the same standard as UK vehicles....
Indeed most manufacturers fit minimal security to vehicles supplied to EU countries and if it's supplied to outside the EU it often doesn't have anything....e.g Japan etc...
This is why Adrian Flux, being a specialist insurer notable for insuring imports demand these measures...
Just for your info the UK has by far the most stringent security standards in the world and all manufacturers hate it as it means far greater cost...for instance the door locks have to survive a two minute attack test being bludgeoned with a hammer and chisel and thus additional security frameworks often have to be added to UK spec vehicles behind the door skins to assist.

Interesting regarding UK security standard even if I do not think that most of all with all the electronics in the car anything can really stop the car from being stolen and I do not know how much this "extra security" required in UK will slow that down. Do not think that nowadays anybody will steal a car with a hammer
What annoyed me is that the Adrian Flux people insisted that was true for the Disco saying that "they know it stop" while that is not true based on what Land Rover said and they are not accepting even what Land Rover says based on a search in their database. Even a person who installs immobilizer (booked that based on what Adrian Flux said and then the guy canceled the booking saying that Land Rover confirmed the car had the immobiliser) could believe the evidence provided is not sufficient
will check the handbook, thanks wiggs. Do you know if that is also true for non UK cars also because the Thatcham system is UK specific? It takes all sorts (to make a world).

That sounds a lot to keep ,especially if you have only just taken it out, have a chat with the site sponsor and see if he agrees with that, maybe even cancelling and if his insurance is cheaper it might be worth doing anyway. 2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)
