I'm buying an S spec Disco - I think.... (trim question) |
|
Hi all
Virgin poster here so go easy I'm currently looking at what seems to be a very nice 2005 (05) Disco 3 S, however I like to do a bit of homework and although the ad stated Cruise Control there are no buttons visible on the steering wheel. Could have been a simple auto populate thing for car details so wasn't too bothered (I could use the lack of cruise to haggle)...anyway I came across your spec level details in the Disco3 Wiki and that started my concerns...
I cannot see any parking sensors in the rear bumper but it should have them
The aforementioned lack of cruise control
The car has privacy glass (ok, could be fitted as an option)
The car has chrome mirror casings (again maybe an option)
The alloys are 6 spoke (again maybe an upgrade)
Banging the reg into webuyanycar did not pull back anything mentioning S trim I tried this with an XS advertised car and it did mention it in the result)
It does have the S badge on the rear but I thought I'd gather opinion in case there was some good reason for the differences I spotted as I'm aware trims have varied over the years.
Anyway, thanks in advance for any feedback

Badges are SOOOOOO easy to add and remove. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

An "S" should have rear PDC (parking sensors).
Privacy glass may have been specified as an option but more likely to be aftermarket tints (you will be able to see the brown heater elements in the rear tailgate glass if they are aftermarket tints)
Chrome mirrors, you say? Meh.
6 spoke (HSE) alloys are readily available and a decent 19" upgrade from the base spec 17" wheels.

Blimey, bloody glad I checked - that's it! ...it's got the low-line head unit in so must be one of these - explains everything that's missing.
Right well some decision making to be done - get him to slash the price dramatically or look for one that has the toys I want
Really appreciate the input - Thanks

There's a couple of "S" specs for sale at the moment. One auto and one manual, if I remember correctly.
A 2006 "S" is cracking value for money, IMO. You get many of the toys an SE and HSE has but no leather (unless an option), electric seats, sat nav, or one or two other bits.

Doesn't always work with the spec
I've just looked at the spec for my 57 plate xs
I don't have leather or sat nav
But everything else is there
D3 57 xs Stornaway grey
D2 02 commercial silver gone but a great servant and won't be forgotten

Find someone with Microcat |
|
If you have the VIN or the original reg no from the day it left the dealer, Land Rovers Microcat parts system will give you the build sheet spec of the car.
Some people have acquired a copy of this up to MY 2010.....
Prob best not to post your full VIN publicly but by PM when you have enough posts

FYI this link lists the D3 specs from LR's website in July 2005 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Well I've spoken to the dealer - I think he was genuinely surprised and to his credit is no longer advertising it as an S and has removed the reference to Cruise Control etc. He's probably taken it in as an S and paid over the odds anyway as I noted he's left the price the same.
Anyway all's well that ends well - off to see a different one this weekend and with my new found knowledge I can definitely say it's an 'S' spec
Cheers all

Don't forget when you look again that the spec for the S changed slightly between the 05MY & 06MY 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

And I have a MY06 S. Between us, the big man and I have you covered.
Xenons standard on a MY05, BD? I had to buy mine extra. But I did get the bright pack as standard.
