Driving on the beach
Chaps - I have a beautiful vision of a deserted beach, family playing, dogs running in and out of the water and the D3 sitting there with a powered toolbox of beers etc., and us camped out by it for the day.
So... where on earth in this beautiful country of ours can we actually take our cars on to the beach? Is there no guide or list anywhere?

You can still in WSM....just, they have reduced where you can drive and now charge you as well, it's a bit better up at Uphill beach, but again, they've reduced where you can drive by about 80%.
Best place for me though was Pendine Sands back in Wales, Top gear have done a few shoots there in the past and all the early British Land Speed records were done there, loads of Bluebird and Babbs history there....worth going to the Pendine Museum of Speed as well if you're there...Lovely part of the world and plenty of places to camp.
MOD own the land I think, they've even landed a few Hercules there, I think they use it to test short landings.....

Brean sands near WSM you can park on the beach.
Last time I was there ( last summer) the parking area was quite expensive and you could find your own secluded spot of paradise (as long as the weather allows it ) Muddy sand at low tide. Dog friendly

Brean Downs beach up road from WSM is where I had my first ever drives (first on dads lap aged about 7 then 'on my own' in drivers seat aged about 12)
Did same with my son and he proved pretty capable of driving a manual Volvo XC70 after quite a short time going up and down the 'far end' of the beach.
However, I understand that the beach has now been made an 'extension' of the highway due to all the nutters that used to race up and down and was quite a few plods visible when i was last there about 3 years ago.
Also warning on the tides - comes in fast there and as kids on holiday (mum and dad had caravan overlooking the beach) used to sit and watch the cars float away as people went up on the downs thinking the sea was (it was!) "miles out, we'll be OK for hours"

Here's a photo of 3 of us on the beach at the start of our C2C, the beach in question is just south of Ravenglass on the west coast. By the way the area to the left of the cars is an MOD firing range and they don't like you driving into the range

Used to be able to drive on the beach at Trimingham, North Norfolk (5 miles south of Cromer). Not sure if the access has been washed away in the recent storms though

AFAIK Black Rock Sands at Porthmadog is still accessible. You can park on the beach (charged) at Borth. I think you can drive on parts of Southport beach. You can sneak onto Warren Beach in Abersoch out of season, keep an eye out for the security guards though.
However, I am completely spoiled by Morocco, it was fantastic driving the coast. Makes you realise how cramped and restricted we are in the UK.
