Transmission fault and judder |
|
Only had this vehicle 2 weeks, its an automatic 2006.
We have a slight occasional judder in low gears and it has come up with a "transmission fault limited gears available" on the message center with a "F" displayed in the gear selector. Once we have stopped and the vehicle is restarted the fault clears and the vehicle drives fine.
It went back into the garage this morning and they checked and cleared the faults - sadly they didn't give us the fault codes or explain what could be causing the problem.
It drove fine for the return journey but on the following trip the error then came up again.
Reading some of the other posts on here it can be any number of problems causing this fault.
What are our best options?? Is the vehicle still usable??

Hi, this is my first post on here. I've had my d3 for 4 months now and have the same issues. Just have a look through the forum post or use search and you will find out loads. Mine kept saying hct fault or something like that but only on start up. Had a look on here and my problem looked like the battery. So change battery and all fixed. 2 months later transmission fault, again looked on hear and looked like low battery ( wife doing short runs ) took it for a good run and fault hasn't happened since. Got auto box judder in 3 rd gear have looked on hear and proberbly needs gear box flush. Can't afford it at the mo so just ordered a tube of DR TRANNY of eBay. Have a look on hear its great you will learn loads

Thank you, that was my first post as well, had looked through and found so many different suggestions that was why I posted the message.
Ours does some short runs as well so possibly could be the same problem as yours.
Will suggest that to garage first and see what they come up with, and if it comes under the warranty

Hi barney , does the f transmission fault come on when you actually stop and select D or R ,if so could be a a faulty brake light switch cheap and easy fix , as mine would throw up the f transmission fault until i changed the switch mentioned ,

You have a brake caliper seized as that what I was getting a few weeks back. Started with severe vibration judder then the transmission restricted gears. Pulled over and turned off ignition and then turn on fault cleared. Check each wheel for excessive heat at the hub as on mine it was the nearside rear brake pads binding on the disc. Hope this helps.

Picked up a 2006 Disco 3 about a month ago. Also had the judders upon hard acceleration until the gears kicked down. Today had the crankshaft position sensor replaced and all fixed.
