Just to put the alternative view to those like me that read any threads on the forum and then must rush out and buy things we really didn't need....
Went to the outlaws at Xmas and they live in a relative New Build with hundreds of down lighters in every room..... They had just been talked into upgrading their lighting to LED's which I'm sure after 50 yrs they may recoup the huge price that they got charged....
Personally I found them hideous..... They were great in a kitchen or garage where you want that additional light but I found their living rooms and bedrooms utterly awful....
Imagine a room with 20 Narpy torches blasting down from above. The light is so extreme that personally I couldn't sit in any room for long....subtle they are not and the white light I found too clinical.....
Great if you live in a hospital or asylum.... Hideous if you live in a home....
Only my humble opinion.......

That is just one application though !
And the lights must be towards the cooler end of the spectrum where the light is more white / blue and clinical in appearance !
Think dental surgery ? Which it sounds like you were........
It would be interesting to pop a bulb out and see what rating it is K
Mine are 2700 and are like the halogen it has replaced.
To put it into perspective 2700 is a D3 with halogen headlights fitted.
You can see where you're going but the output from the antiquated technology struggles a bit on dipped in the winter when on country roads.
3200 is a Xenon its crisper whiter and as a result its brighter, the yellow hue has been lost replaced by a whiter light which lights up the road ahead a lot better than halogen
Then you can get a higher rating bluish hue, think boy racer in his Golf
They burn your retinas and there is no difference between dipped and full beam !
I bought one of several times before I settled on the Phillils.
I tried buying cheap but the multi LED ones were garbage and several of the diodes in all were not lit !
I bought what I would call expensive ones, but every 3rd one was free so I plumped for those
No doubt in time they will be cheaper ?Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Actually that's a brilliant description of their house....... The lighting is exactly that...It is like a dental surgery in more ways than one...

Yep the cheapie LEDs are terrible. Spend more and you get a warm spread of light that is just like the halogens they replace.
Whilst LEDs have been around for a while it is only recently that genuine halogen replacements have become available.

I totally agree. Yet to find an LED that gives the same light as a halogen. They can't... LED's just don't have the full colour spectrum range of a hot source light. There's always some strange spikes in the colour, usually involving green or magenta. Might use them in a garage... but not in the lounge.

I've had 3 out of 5 GU10's from Ledhut fail now. One has been replaced FOC and I'm about to contact them about the other 2. Considering they've lasted less than 3 months I can't say I'm too impressed with them.

When we moved house just over a year ago, I counted up the 50w GU10's halogens in the new place and there were 34 of them! I replaced them all with these: http://www.brightlightz.co.uk/products/10-...0w-halogen
Really pleased with the colour and brightness (I did try a few cool white ones first and they were awful!). One year on I have not had to touch a bulb, all working fine, I think I changed 4 or 5 of the halogens in the 1 month before I swapped to LED's. Now when the kids leave the house with all the lights on at least it's only 238w rather than 1.7Kw

The benefits of the LED bulbs really showed up today when the electric bill came in. Our average electricity usage the previous year from October to April was 14.71 kW/hr per day. After getting the LEDs at the new year our average usage was 12.13 kW/hr per day in the same October to April period.
This resulted in a bill of £254 instead of £318 even after the tariff going up. So, well happy, must look for others I can replace, it leaves more money in the pot to spend on land rovers...... Result! Joined the BMWX5 45e group
