Interior Heater Controls

Hi all, can anyone enlighten me please?

The heater controls just dont seem to make any sense - is it just me?

I have two dials : one for the driver side and one for the passenger side to 'independently' set the temperatures in each zone!

When I drove a merc company car once (I think it was) it also had the same set up although a digital display rather than dials. When there was only one person you pressed a button and it linked the two sets of controls so whatever the driver set the passenger side was the same!

That seemed to me to make perfect sense?

Now the D3's doesn't seem to have that switch and I would have thought that in the absence of that switch the drivers side setting would be the master temp and the other side would follow albeit not the exact temp but the drivers side would be the target temp?

It doesn't seem to do that either - it seems to me that you can either have a random average of the two or alter both together (Which is what I do now!)

Just wondered if either I am missing something or what other people do to combat this??

FWIW, I set both dials to whatever temperature I want. Not a tricky operation by any means. Rolling Eyes

TBH, the cabin volume of a D3 is so big, you are unlikely to notice much difference in temperature when both sides are set differently.

It is not a Merc.

You are correct its not a tricky operation but it is anoying to me when there is quite obviously a better way!!!!!

You do notice quite a significant difference if one is set to 16 and one to 28, if you then knock up the passengers from 16 to 28 it makes a massive difference to the heat output!

As you say not a massive issue - just thought would see what others think?

I think it is not a massive issue.

When set differently the passenger side gets a pre=programmed offset from that of the drivers side by altering the flow through the LH temp blend door. There is no feedback as there is only one interior temp sensor on the driver's side. At best it can only achieve a delta of a few degrees, but this is enough to stop the girls from moaning.

Genius.
