Heat gun on black arches?

I'm sure i've read on here somewhere about using a heat gun to bring back the blackness of the plastic arches and bumpers?

Anyone actually done it, have a heat gun in the garage and fancy trying it out but curious if anyone has done it before with success.

So, anyone? Laughing

Hmm, could be an idea then.

The car's 9 years old now and any of the black detailing products don't seem to last for long before fading away. The bumpers and arches have a slight fade to them so want to bring it back up.

Going to get them done before i stick a snorkel on it. Mr. Green

Another job for WD40.

Fundamentally, the plastic has oxidised through time so any 'fix' will only be temporary

If you scroll down the comments on the youtube link you will see that in some cases it has bugg Censored ed the plastic in the long term, so I would be tempted to give it a miss if I were you

Cheers Russell Thumbs Up

The following is few pointers for all that want to try this. But please be aware I will not be held responsible for any damage coursed to you vehicle coursed by yourself.

First make sure the plastic is clean and dry (gave mine a good scrub and rubbed dry). Any parking scrapes can be carefully trimmed back or rubbed back.
Hold the gun around 2 inches away from the trim/bumper and evenly heat it up. You will see the trim change colour quite quickly and any small imperfections will be come much less noticeable.
Words of warning DO NOT touch the trim with the gun or fingers. It will mark very easy and will burn your fingers (until cool) Also do not be tempted to over do it as trim may start to deform.

WD40 sprayed on to a cloth and then rubbed on the plastic bumpers and panel at base of windscreen. Brings it back to nice black look. My son who used to work for a well known dealership told me about after seeing the valet guys prepping a vehicle.

I'm still using Black Wow with outstanding results, despite the rest of the country finding it useless I apply it twice a year and my plastics look almost brand new !

I wish I'd had this stuff years ago when I had a big bumper Golf GTI

Thinners

I used cellulose thinners and it brought them up great. Still not faded after 6 months.
