Had my 55 D3 for 6 months and all has been well. The day before a planned 1000 mile round trip with the family to Scotland and the faults begin!
Started the Disco this morning just as it started got the following: HDC fault system not available. Went for a drive came back. Re started, message gone.
Any ideas??? Do I drive the family to Scotland tomorrow???
Thanks.

I had the same fault on my D3 55-plate, especially in cold weather when all sorts of strange fault messages began to appear on start-up. I continued to drive it and ignored the codes which went away once I was motoring along. A new battery sorted everything. Discovery 3 HSE Auto (2007)
VW Golf TDI (2010)
Jaguar Sovereign 4.2 (1984)
Discovery 3 S Auto (2005), now sold

Mine shows that message. Goes away after a few seconds and doesn't appear when starting from warm. Strange thing is the HDC still works. I think you are fine.

BTW just check you've got OEMLR brake bulbs...if yer battery is original would be changing it anyway.
The vehicle will also store a fault code for it so worth having the car plugged in before paying for a new battery....keep an eye on the red battery light when you start it...should go off around 3 seconds after the car starts...if it stays on for any longer or does not go off for a minute or so...then get yer alternator checked as soon as possible.
another tip would be to make sure you turn off the radio/heaters/wipers etc BEFORE you crank it, saves taking addition draw on what might be a soon to fail battery.

Thanks for all the advice, looks like a battery check is in order.
