Hi all, I jacked up my front right wheel and was sad to see the tracking is loose(move about 3 to 4mm at the gaiter end). Does anyone know what I can do to fix it? Thanks

Track rod end replacement is fairly simple to do. £25 a side for the parts from TLO when I got mine a couple of years ago. Think there is 'how to' on here somewhere. Might be wise to get a 4 wheel alignment done afterwards to make sure everything is lined up, you can make a 'best guess' by counting the. Imber of turns as you unthread the old one and wind the new one in by the same number if turns. Check for play on the inner track rods too before you orde the parts, you might as well do both at once while it's in bits if it needs it

It's not loose at the wheel end of the tie rod its at the steering end.
I thought the steering gear had threaded holes on both ends that the tie rods screwed into? If it's only loose at one end does that mean the threads are gone? If that is the case either the tie rod needs replacement or the steering gear needs replacement? Has anyone seem this before?

My 'inner rods' needed replacing the first time I had it serviced, can't remember what they were called properly, but sufficed to say you're not the first (steering rack ends mayber?)
No idea on a how to I'm afraid.

To re vitalizing an old thread, how do I set an appropriate torque on inner track rod ?It is hard to do with a pipe wrench and I would like to be accurate on this, Normal track rods have shape of the nut at the end of the rod whereas ours only two flattened ends , Is there a special tool to accomplish that ? Thanks.

Hey thorgal, apparently I'm finding all of your posts on your complete suspension rebuild. I've been thinking about doing my track/tie rods ends in the near future, so I'm following your work with interest.
If I'm understanding you correctly, and you're wondering how to get a torque wrench on the inner tie rod, I would suggest trying a crow's foot wrench. If you can find one large enough, it should slide over the two flattened areas and let you put a torque wrench to it. However, I think you need to recalculate the torque since the torque indicated by the ratchet will not be what is delivered by the wrench due to the fact that they are offset. Should be a simple moment-arm calculation though...

I know about crow's foot wrench, I just don't want to buy a whole variety kit, just wanted to know exact t size for this particular application. BTW , I just got a crimping tool from amazon delivered , that you recommended , thanks.
