Video screen fitted
Just finished installation of a navigation system and a video screen.
A Kenwood 702W display fits perfectly. Just some minor modifications was needed.
Video feed comes from a DVD player.
Connected to it is a Kenwood G520 navigation unit that is basically same as Garmin GVN52 but
the Kenwood one supports touch screen.
The display has also support for a rear view camera.

Display unit (Kenwood 702W) , navigator (Kenwood G520) and traffic receiver (Garmin GTM10)
cost 1100€ together from a webshop in Germany.
I also bought a CAN-bus adapter (Dietz 61009/610019) to decode speed pulse and reverse gear for the display and navigator. That cost 150€. And the rear view camera 40€ from ebay.
Installation took four evenings. Most time consuming part of the installation was to dismantle dashboard
to install all hidden boxes and to route all needed cables.

OK, here are some tips for the needed modifications to install the display.
First you need a display that has right dimensions. LZ-702W is 177mm wide and height is 121mm.
Depth of the unit (34mm max) is a problem and I needed to do something for it. The top of the display is fine
as it fits nicely into cavity in the center dashboard.
In the next picture I have tried to draw that I have cut off the bottom part of the back cover. I have then
put some tape there to cover the exposed interior.

Here is another shot from different angle. The upper and lower parts of the covers are taped together and
I put on this side also a strip of velcro to give a better fit into the dashboard.

Next thing was to cut a one cm deep hole into the dash. You need to have the front part of the dashboard off to
make this easily. The material is actually very easy to cut using sharp knife. Make also a hole to route the display cables.

Then you just start to fit the display into the cavity. First push the upper part as long as it goes.
Then carefully start to lower the bottom to fit it. It may be needed to cut some more of the dash to
have the display in correct angle.

This is how the finished bottom should look like. Note the extra piece of tape that is needed to pull
off the display.

Last thing is cut the rubber mat in half.

The display is hold in place just by friction. I could have made some holders but so far I have not
needed those.
The display has a hideaway unit that I have taped inside the bottom of drivers side dashboard. There
is also lot of room for the CAN-adapter and the actual navigator unit. Installing and wiring those should
be easy but time consuming. You need both a constant battery feed and a switched feed for the units
to operate. The navigator unit should be into place that it is easily reachable to update the firmware/maps
and POI information.
Traffic receiver (TMC) was very easy as it had the same antenna connectors as the LR radio unit has.
I have taped it on top of the radio as the extension cables supplied with the TMC unit were quite short.
There are three boxes (CAN adapter, display hideaway and navigator) that needs to be placed and wired.
Wiring the rear view camera and gps antenna is really a pain as you need to avoid all side airbags.
An interesting thing was to tap the CAN-high and CAN-low wires to the diagnostic connector.
You need to take off the connector first and that is not easy as you can not see the torx screws holding
it in place. I also think that the CAN adapter instructions had wrong wire coloring as the adapter did
not started to work before I changed the low and high wires together.
The display has a built in speaker but as this will be facing inside the dash I removed it and soldered a
connector in place. I am now using an old speaker from Nokia hands free kit that I put next to the other
boxes inside the dash. That works fine and is loud enough.
