20" alloys and traction control issue....help!!!
Hi all
I fitted a set of landmark alloys with Pirelli scorpions 255/50/20. They are part worn and have about 5mm tread left.
The traction control has come on a few times today whilst cornering. Country roads but dry. First time this has happened and only since putting the wheels on 2 days ago. I have set pressures to 36 front and 39 rear. I think this improved things a bit as the pressures were the other way round as I swapped them front to back from the way the previous owner had them. New front bushes done a few months ago. Rears look ok. Wheels nuts torqued to 140 nm and no sign of vibration at any speed.
I am however going to take the fronts off again tomorrow and refit just to make sure they are seated properly. I also noticed a metallic sound when turning right, like brake disc rub when a pad touches the disc. This is only when turning quite a lot and going over 20mph. I don't think it is related as it was doing this before but will check pads tomorrow.
The temperature has been about 3-4C today. Do I need new tyres, I know the load rating is slightly under and am planning to get 265/50/20 with 111 rating but was hoping the wear these out a bit.
I also don't have 4wd screen activated yet so can't check steering angle.
Any thoughts or advice greatly received.

Are the tyres evenly worn? If there is a significant difference between tyres on the same axle, it could trigger it.

need to get someone with a faultmate to reset the car to different size wheels and tyres to allow it to know when to engage the Traction control properly. FFRR SC 4.2

I have 255/55/19 mtr tyres on mine and every now and again I get the same thing, trac kicks in and limits power.
It's just started and my tyres have been on for months.
As far as I'm aware it's not slipping, seems to do it when it's cold and been stood for a while.

Wear looks pretty even. The rears are slight worn more on the insides but they were on the front for the previous owner.

I don't know anyone on the iom with a faultmate. Can this be done with land rover software as I think that's what local Indy has?

Going to the stealers today to update wheel size and calibrate steering angle sensor. We shall see!!!

That should sort it - make sure your pressures are even also.

I don't think the size of the wheels is your problem. It could be a dodgy tire, or something completely unrelated that you're suddenly more aware of since the tire change.
I don't know for 100%, but the only reason to make a software change - if it's doable - would be to recalibrate your speedo for the change in tyre. With the change you made, your speedo will read faster than you're going, so it shouldn't be a huge problem.PAGODA

on 2 D3s and now a D4 I have shifted from 18's to 20's, 19's and back again so many times, and not once had TC kick in, and never changed the CCF settings.
I'd say its something else giving you the issue.

Quite right on the wheel sizes. Dealer told me you can't change wheel size in ccf on my age of car, only on RRS.
They found the steering angle sensor threw up a module software incompatibility fault some 3000 miles ago (before I had it) so they have re programmed and calibrated. On the drive home seemed fine. Couldnt push to hard due to oap drivers
Does this mean someone changed the sensor but didn't program it or has been messing with software? They did say sensor can be faulty and not throw a fault code so we shall see. They have changed quite a few in the past year.
