Yes, the Battery Monitoring System should be reset on fitting a new battery.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

So my indie is pretty sure it is a faulty alternator overcharging (which is only at the intial start up).
Apparently, according to him, it is not detrimental to the car.
Booked it in to have the new alternator replaced with a new new one, after Christmas.

Well, not unheard of as there have been a fair few overcharging alternators on the forum. Overcharging is not for the systems but most have in-built protection. Overcharging is not good for AGM batteries, should you have one of those.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

AGM battery?
As I understand it the voltage is only high for a second or two then returns to normal with this particular fault.

What happens if you dont reset the d4 battery system and you change the batt?
(Mine is performing flawlessly, just curious, as i think it will be adjusted by time automatically as the system relearn the behaviour of the new batt....but maybe not...ence the question)

Did you have to replace the alternator with a genuine LR part or was OEM part ok?

Until very recently, there were issues with OEM/Genuine alternators. There was a faulty batch from Denso.
This has now been rectified, and Advanced Factors have the new, latest batch in stock My D3 Build Thread

Both original and replacment were genuine parts. As mentioned earlier there was a known issue with them. As soon as I mentioned the issue to the Indie he knew immediately what it was so obviously he had seen a few.

Thanks for the replies.
I have exactly the same problem.
I have both alternator and battery replaced.
However, the alternator was a oem type.
Back to the indie garage, they contacted LR and were told that if the didn't use the genuine LR alternator then the problem described can occur.
Wondered if this was LR spinning a line or is fact.
Recap... Problem started with red battery light flashing and sat nav going on and off.
alternator replaced ... Then, next day, parking yellow light flashing and sat nav going on and off.
Garage said battery needed replacing. Replaced battery, problem remains.
Hence question.

Getting up this posts again. I did the same things, battery replaced because of some odd faults. Problem fixed. Now after a few month alternator just died over night w/o any other indication (85k miles) and was replaced by a spare from free market (no Denso but looks exact the same). Was good for 2 weeks. Now on a long trip and heavy acceleration the full chistmas tree lit up with all failure messages you can imagen, could not even notice as fast as they showed up. Lastly the complete dashboard monitoring shut down, even no indicator function. I could luckely just drive in F mode (automatic transmission) an took it of from the highway. After switching of, locking all doors and start from scratch everything looked good but could just drive up to 5...10km/h an all happend again and again.
Finally towed to the dealer. Diagnose: overvoltage from alternator. Alternator will be changed the next days. I'll Keep you posted about the final results.
