Petrol Gauge suddenly stopped working... anyone has a clue |
|
Hi All
just bought a 2005 V8HSE with 100K Kms.
drove 1500Kms and suddenly (bing) the petrol gauge went from half to empty, lighting up the reserve light.
the dealer told me he has to change the two gauge in the tank, and that will take 5 hours at 100Euros/hour. + parts
does anyone have a similar experience of workaround. i guess the guy who sold me the disco may have cleared the error before giving me the car, as it is strange this happens just after i bought it
if anyone has a similar experience, i would be very interested to learn
thks

do a search on the site for gauge not working, I seem to remember a thread mentioning one of the gauges in the tank comes adrift and gives this issue.
for all intent and purposes if you knew the mileage you get out of a tank you can calculate when safe to travel and when to refill with fuel.
I also remember something about the fix being a new tank as they cant just get the new gauge into place.
but I have been known to talk
somebody who knows better will be along soon (they will be back from Xmas shopping and want their disco3/4 website on) Experience is a difficult teacher, because she gives the test first and then the lesson afterwards!!!!

Matches my experience; I had a tank replaced after rodent damage to the pipe on mine, and the sensors were swapped, but one came loose, and the gauge showed empty. The dealership rectified it f.o.c., but the original bill for the tank swap had two hours' labour, so I'd query the five hours quoted or take it to a another garage. that's lots of beer tokens for a 2 hour job as I changed the pump yesterday and that's with getting it all started too and on the floor.if you have no means I would find a replacement part first second hand and wait for the summer weather as it may be cold now and diy as the whole unit new may come in the pump housing.
job is not too hard but the car can be refuelled more regularly and have you lost the trip meter too.

nope, not lost the trip meter, nor the MPG meter.
got the spare parts delivered to me, but hesitating to do it myself.
also looked at the handwork manual, and the phase where you disconnect the cables, before removing the tanks seemed a bit difficult ?
did you do it on the floor ? with the car at high position ?
did you have to sustain the tank to avoid breaking the cables or do you have enough slack with the cables to put the tank on the floor and then disconnect the electric cables ?
thks much

I just dropped the tank down front end first and disconnected the wiring. There did seem to be a fair amount of slack to work with.

the mechanic did not make it |
|
Dropped the car yesterday, and the mechanic was not able to make it
he removed the tank but told me he did not manage to grab the senders in the tank and remove them...
he gave me the car back unfixed.
did you have the same issue to grab the senders and change them, or were they visible and easy to change
thks
