I think I have sorted a work round for the rear view mirror/autodim/centre headrest problem
I was finding problems when the centre rear headrests was blocking headlights (from cars behind) activating the light sensors in the rearview mirror, causing it to not autodim
I brought up the issue with local dealer who said there was no fix and certainly not under warranty
It seems that recent models have the light sensors at the top of the mirror
So I had the idea to see if the mirror could be turned thru 180 (i.e. upside down)
Have now carried out the mod and …Hey Presto ! no more problems
In order to turn the mirror upside down ;-
1. the outer plastic cover has to be unclipped
2. turn the arm (attached to windscreen) and mirror thru 45 degrees anti clockwise – the mirror should now hang by its wire – be careful to support and not stress the wires
3. unclip wires for rain sensor and lightsensors – they have small integral clips to release do not just yank them
4. now turn the mirror thru 180 on its ball joint with the arm that connects it to the windscreen
5. reverse procedure

Hmmm.. nice fix ... but howcome others aren't suffering with the same autodimming issue ? Has the unit been tested ?21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
Privacy glass? I have come to the conclusion mine does not really "dim" because my privacy glass acts like a pair of shades anyway and so car headlights never seem to be an issue.
Just a thought. Dunno what others have experienced, please share...Life is what you make it.

The other thing that you can do is lower the headrest more than is normally possible. It doesn't completely fix the problem, though it does improve it significantly.IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
SA - 07 VW Golf TDI - White - Sold!
I have privacy glass and my mirror dims perfectly well.
I just wish the wing mirrors would dip too when Mr. 'look at all my lights' looms up behind. Back in the game!

autodimming works fine with headrests removed - therefore unit not faulty
agree about altering headrest but this completely fixes problem
there have been some posts/threads about the problem - maybe it doesn't bother people -maybe they don't know improvement is possible and anyway why did LR change the mirrors on later models ?Illegitimi Non Carborundum

Good to hear, perhaps mine is working perfectly correctly and it is so efficient I dont notice it, or I am just being dim myself Life is what you make it.
