D3 - Leaking Air from Suspension

Hi all

Got the suspension height failure message (normal height only) on my 06 D3 yesterday. Had a look around the forrum and found this is to be expected around 90k.

However, I'm trying to locate the problem and fix it myself but have n't found any particular guidance about (might be my search criteria though).

Having just started up the car an air leak can clearly be heard for 10 seconds or so which stops and then starts agin, I presume as the car is trying to self level. Leak is from the rear near side. I could hear it starting and stopping as the wife drove off in the car.

So a I have a couple of questions which I was hoping the mass knowledge base out there may be able to help me with

1. Is the car ok to drive until its fixed?
2. Is there usually one point of failure at each wheel, ie the gas strut or is the pipework and joints prone to failure?
3. How easy is it to locate and self fix?

All comments welcome

thanks in advance

Use a water and car shampoo mixture to spray on the various pipes, joints, airbags, compressor, valve blocks ETC. Do not use washing up liquid. Very Happy

D3's don't have gas struts just airbags with normal dampers. Unless of course someone has added some. Rolling Eyes

That will find leaks but you really should get any fault codes read.

It could just be the disco fart as it self levels but that should only happen occasionally and usually after leaving the vehicle.

The farting seems ti have stopped now (well for the LR that is) but getting the suspension fault message. Looking through other threads i've found seems to suggest a compressor problem. Does anyone know if a DIY replacement or strip and repair is possible and if theres any info on this forum? I've had a look but not managed to find anything as yet.

cheers for that,

had a look through the previous thread and looks quite straight forward, does anyone have any recomendations for a supplier of the compressor overhaul kit?
