Ticking/clicking noise and loss of power - Noisy Injector? |
|
I have a ticking or clicking noise coming form the engine which is audible most of the time, can usually only be heard inside the car, and is difficult to hear on tickover standing by the car. Best way to describe it, it sounds a little like sticking a plastic ruler into an electric desk fan, and it changes with the engine speed.
It is loud enough to be heard over the heater blowers, and because of its unique frequency it can be heard over the radio sometimes too. Dealer had a look under warranty, but deny being able to hear it. I have driven D3's for over 5 years, so I know it isn't a 'normal' noise. usually when you get to A road speeds, the clicking is so fast it sounds like a whistle.
The clicking appears when you throttle, and drops off if you ease off. The noise comes as you press the throttle, but just before the engine starts to rev and pick up, if that makes any sense. I hear it louder still if driving past shops or buildings as I get the reflection back off the walls.
I have also recently noticed that as I accelerate up my road in the morning (slight incline) the engine speed just stops increasing at around 3.5k and then just climbs really slowly, really noticable because it holds on to gears longer, the transmission is waiting for the revs to go a little higher before changing. It does this at around 35mph and then again at around 65mph, both at the same 3.5k rpm. It is as though it just has no guts and cannot get past that engine speed, climbing so slowly past that point, and eventually changing gear.
I'd be really grateful for any ideas or suggestions to point the dealers in the right direction. It's a 2009 with only 25k miles. Thanks guys. D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't know where to look to be honest! But it is covered by LR warranty, so even if it is that they would get the parts. D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)

OK I have a little feedback on this now. It is starting to look like a fuel system problem, and possibly a noisy fuel injector. It is going back to the dealer next week, who will remove all the injectors and send them off to be tested. I'm just concerned that they will pass the function test, as they appear to be functioning fine, just noisy.
Has anyone else had noisy injectors? D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)
