D4 2010 trade in

Evening all,

I'm looking to trade in my wifes (and secretly my) D4, its a 2010 HSE with 44k miles, bought as an ex mangement car from a large multi dealer with stone in its name 2.5 years ago. Looking to replace with a year old D4 equivilent. The feedback on first pass from the dealer is that the trade in value is £27k, this sounds a little light in terms of trade in vs the £46k + for a one year old replacement. Appreciate the members thoughts on this ?

Best

Just over a year ago I bought a very late SE D3 (2009) from Duckworths with less than 40k on the clock for £20k with full warranty etc; 27 for a trade in does not seem to bad to me I'm afraid! However, there are others on teh forum much better qualified to comment.....

Mid September, my DEC 2010 (MY11) HSE with 15k miles was valued at £33750 with WBAC. I was pretty pleased with that but have decided to keep it as I can't find anything better to replace it with.

Usually use the following to see if trade in good.

Look at similar models at Main dealers and see what they are charging.

Usually if new stock will be top dollar so will add 5-6k to trade in price, then will drop if no mugs found to around 4-5k above trade-in value.

So would expect to see 2010 models based on your trade in figure of around 31 -33 k on dealers forecourts.

Hope that helps works for dealers round this way.

Also any ding or dent will be priced in at -£500 so better to get chips away or similar to repair yourself at less than half the money they knock off.

If in good nick worth advertising in usual popular places as Indie dealers are always looking for good stock and will pay more than main dealers if the all the boxes are ticked

SEems to be consistent with what is out there - a quick trawl through the LR approved vehicled shows a whole group of 2010 HSE with 40-50k miles etc for around £31,500 or so....

+1 for Bobgolden. Try a quick WBAC check and it will give you a good idea. Their business model is to pay a little below trade and then to chip you if it isn't exactly as described. Give it a try and let us know the outcome. You may be pleasantly surprised Thumbs Up

I would say its about right. The last of the D3s seem to be loosing their value into the £15-£18k bracket so IMO this will pull the 2010 D4s down into that price bracket and below.

If the car is a good'n why risk another 20k in depreciation over the next 2 years Big Cry Shocked

Invest the 20 k you would spend on the newer one (8 speed box and 255 nice but not 20 k nice -rotary dial awful)

Then add the 20k you have 'not lost' - and get the next model in 2015 Thumbs Up

Just another way of looking at it Wink

8 Speed D4s have high residuals in the market due to demand. My experiance was it looked much better value to buy new rather than 1 year old for only a £3k premium.

Thank you all for your input.

So, some great observations re ensuring any dinks get ironed out before trade in vs getting hit for them at the dealer rates per issue, that’s good sound advice.

The overall trade in value in fairness was a sight unseen generic so it appears to be around what I should accept prior to getting in to the detail of a deal, that said I was expecting about £30k.

Additionally good advice re getting new vs 1 year old, I need to go look at this as if the real difference is a handful of thousand pounds then this may work.

Again thanks all for your help.

Having spent 6 months looking at 10-12 plate cars I can feel your angst.
I bought a May 12 car in the end.
If I could have bough a 10 plate for 30k I would have, so if you can face the process there should be a few k extra.
The depreciation curve means buying new with a discount is a very easy option to migrate to.
