Blanking EGR results worse fuel consumption? |
|
Hey guys,
Since I blanked my 05 TDV6, I noticed fuel consumption is getting worse. It's not around 15L/100KM (15 MPG) around the town. It used to be 13L or lower.
Also when running in idle, the vibrate appears worse as well (yet pretty stable though).
Any thoughts?
Cheers

Strange as the general experience is that the mpg improves after EGR blanking. CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

Map sensor cleared 5 months ago. Only driven 3000KM after that. Believe it's still clean.

My fuel consumption is also much higher since EGR mod was done?
They did not provide seals for the lower blanking plates - they might suck in air there or loose air there?
Can anybody advise me please?
What will happen if the lower blanking plates leak?

Not sure about the consumption but defo would give rough idle (and probably use more fuel)

I disconnected the EGR butterfly valve connector and all seems normal now. (EGR mod done)
I removed the complete butterfly and shaft and then blanked the hole where the shaft went through
I think the ECU reads the position of the rvdt of the butterfly and mine might have indicted closed therefore assuming a higher fuel consumption. It went up to 36 L/100 km "indication only"
Now with the plug disconnected it is back to 9/10 L/100km

Hi all, we are thinking to install on a MY'05 the EGR blanking kit, do you have more info about the problem of consumption ?? You have some idea about main cause of the increase up to 15L/100km?? E-peich

A little bit of EGR (up to 5%) can help fuel consumption under some conditions - it depends how you drive the car. If the EGR blanking kit came with a new calibration to alter the injection paramters to suit a "no_EGR" condition, then you would see an overall improvement in consumption. As it is, the fuel pressure and timing setpoints are calibrated for an airpath condition where the EGR valve is opened.
Using the Ipack readout for fuel consumption is not accurate enough - you need to measure real-world consumption through the fuel filler neck.

Because the engine is now drawing clean cool fresh air i would expect better mpg unless something electronic is causing over fueling. D4
