Auto box problem!!!!
Evening all. My wife has just returned home and has said that the gearbox won't change gear! Sure enough I took it out for a spin and it won't change up in auto. It will change down and will change manually ok. She said when it first did it park brake fault and gearbox fault came up on the dash and it wouldn't do anything so she turned off and restarted it, no faults but still not changing gear in auto!!!
Any ideas?????
it may be the usual malady with a D3...the linkage...
but first before anyone on here can assist:
How old is your D3 ?
How long have you had it ?
it is otherwise in "good nick" ?
Has the situation deteriorated from normal working to where it is now ?
Has the D3 got a warranty ?
Do you do your own repairs, do you use a dealer, have you got a local Indie (independent repairer) ? (realise your on here asking so it won't be the fist...but are you handy with basic tools & instructions ?

I changed the linkage in the spring.
Disco is an 05 with 82k on clock.
Had it for 4 1/2 years.
It's no in bad knick.
Dealer serviced.
Do most repairs myself.
It has done it before but cleared its self.
She has just been out again and said the hdc light came on, the suspension said it was going to lower, brake fault, traction control. I think otherwise known as the "Christmas tree"!!!!!

Sounds like it needs a fault code reader plugging in. Otherwise we are all guessing.

I just took it out again, no lights on dash, it will change up but not until you get to 4500rpm!!!

Hi
Check your brake light bulbs, I had this on a previous D3. If they have blown and the filament is shorting the car thinks your braking and will not change up a gear automatically but will manually.

I'd put it on charge overnight and monitor your battery voltage before starting, just after starting and just after stopping and report back to here.
If I've left mine a few days and or left the interior lights on etc I get a full collection of HDC, special programs and park brake faults.
Battery voltage before starting should be around 12.5 volts. After starting around 13.8 and after stopping around 13.0
Brake light switch and bulbs although not related to the fault directly seem to make the computermebob go a bit lala and mess things up. Don't think anyone knows why but worth looking in to. Brake light switch is less than £15.00 and easy to do.26 and on the 4th LR..

Thinking about it when I followed her last week I thought she had a brake light out! I'll check that tomorrow first I think.
It may sound very strange and I don't know how it could but years ago she was moaning that her mpg had dropped a lot and then I noticed she had a brake light out so changed it and a few days later mpg back to normal!!!!

Use decent quality replacement bulbs - worth every penny!26 and on the 4th LR..

When checking tomorrow you may find you don't have the problem if it's daylight. Turn on your lights and this may reintroduce the fault. If the broken filaments shorting the side light circuit with the brake circuit inside the bulb then when the side lights on it sends power to the brake circuit and the auto box thinks your trying to slow and will not shift up automatically.
Took me ages to figure it out on mine as it seemed completely random but it was the auto lights adding to the fun.
