Interesting comments from all, thank you.

I did make a call in regard to a TD6 HSE this afternoon but when probed the chap told me it has a warning light on which the fault code suggested was turbo related but that it was fine!! This is a core part of my concern and reason for giving such careful consideration to the V8.

I have as mentioned had a 4.4V8 RRS in the past and had no engine related issues.

I did think that a V8 would be cheaper though given the perception diesel is the leading option and the obvious fuel savings etc.

Prices for good V8's are surprisingly strong, I'm guessing this is due to the fact that there aren't many of them around. For example I very nearly bought a V8 for £1000 more than I paid for the TDV6 HSE I did buy!! TDv6 was a year younger and but had covered 16000 more miles.

I have a V8 and it sounds great, goes well and has LPG conversion. It is an '04 HSE with 95k and was listed at £10k as LPG system already fitted wasn't working. A quick trip to my local LPG installer, £178 and they found the broken connector and gave it the once over:D Happy days as I now get effectively double the mpg (in monetary terms) so 13mpg urban becomes 26mpg and with effectively 46mpg on a run!!!

No diesel is gonna touch that...small price for having to put spare wheel in boot although I appreciate some need the room.

You also effectively double the range of the vehicle as it now has two tanks, the petrol being the reserve.

My guess is if you get the diesel, you'll regret it.

Life's too short...get the V8 bought Laughing

Having had an LPG RR back in the 90's I am now looking for a V8 D3 to LPG. Happy with the economy just love the quietness and smooth running. Also appreciate being able to grab those gaps to pull out in or pass without the lag. Great comments from everyone though and confirms my desire.

Best of luck SB, I ended up going for an oil burner TDV6 which so far I'm very happy with.

Do love the sound of the V8, but TDV6 came up and fitted the bill.

I actually prefered the extra torque of a remapped TDV6 to the V8 in my D3. I bought a new one in 2006 and as soon as it was run in I had it mapped and fitted an ITG air filter. Lag pretty much vanished as well.

BTW, I'm a huge V8 fan and have continually owned at least one V8 car for the past 25 years. I just found the lazy delivery of the torque in the mapped TDV6 suited the vehicle better.

But with the price differential between petrol and diesel, an LPG converted V8 makes a lot of sense.

Hi and thank you for the comments. Not too concerned about the economy but at first glance may even come out slightly ahead with the LPG over oil but time will tell.

Have done a deal on an 05 SE in black that has already been converted by an LPG garage I know (formerly my neighbour) and who I had convert my previous vehicles and comes with 3 year warranty so more than happy with that. It has a reasonable spec but is missing enough to keep me busy on here seeking advice and being busy on weekends. LED upgrades to boot lighting and maybe rear lights as well as front sides are on the cards. Will also be looking for advice on adding the Bluetooth facility if possible to it instead of aftermarket parrot.

Fun times ahead I think though maybe not so much for the bank account.

SB
