Extended Mode In Snow

Got stuck in the snow the other day. Put it into EXTENDED MODE, low, and rock crawl. Both diffs locked and she came right out. Snow mode works great on snowy roads but not so good on going over big banks of icy snow.

How did you get it into extended mode ? or did she rise to the occasion automatically ?

Yes I found that last weekend, not even deep snow but stopped in it with a pile forming a large wedge against the front wheels would not drive away but would not wheel spin either (I guess that is good). Had to put it in next mode (cant remember what that is without looking) and she literally jumped out.

I seem to recall in the manual that snow mode uses a higher gear ration to prevent skidding / spinning so the logic seems to apply correctly here, higher gear = less torque = harder to pull away.

Next time I will try the same but leave it in snow mode but also stick it in low ratio, see how she behaves then.

I put it in neutral and applied brake and shifted suspension selector higher. In snow mode I watched it use logic to move the power to the wheel with best traction. Problem was i was stuck on a rigde the long way of my LR3. It kept switching from one side of car to other and just moving car back and forth across ridge. Then with all four wheels getting power i was off.

So it was bottomed out then. Extended Mode is an automatic feature once grounded (looks like your front wheel was buried in the mud).

Once in Extended Mode you must have had your foot on the foot brake, when selecting the height paddle. This puts the D3 into Emergency / Super Extended mode.

Looks cool too.
