Trying to work out the difference between GS and XS |
|
Hi all
Looking at getting a D4 in the not too distant future, been a member here a while and finally the time has come to look at it. Age will probably be a 61 or 12 plate.
So far, from reading other posts i believe the difference are differences between the two are:
Leather Seats
Puddle Lights
Xenon Lights
Sat Nav
Bigger Touchscreen
Crusie Control
Heated seats across front 5
Seven seats
Terrain Response with adjustable suspension << Doesnt it appear on the screen? (think it is the 4x4 screen)
Door mirrors fold when locking and unlocking
Suspension adjustable from key
Am i right with the above, are any of the above optional extras that people may not have added?
Few other questions:
1. When did they introduce rotary shift?
2. Reckon we will see much of a price reduce on used cars come MY14 release?
3. Where does the Tow assist pack come in? Is that standard on all XS's?
4. Is there a better HiFi in the XS?
5. How many gears in the auto box? 8?
6. Im 6ft 6, will i have much headroom in a XS
And finally,
I am coming from a Nissan Xtrail Tekna with:
Reversing Camera
Electrically Adjustable Seats
^ Will the XS have the above as standard?
I appreciate that i could go to a dealer and ask the above, but sometimes feel they may be biased dependant on their stock.
Sorry for a lengthy first post, looking forward to chatting further!
EDIT: Do they do a Manual D4?

Thanks for the reply Dave,
Does it not have electric adjustable seats, or camera or both?
Also, the tow assist, is that something that can be activated easily enough?
Does all terrain appear on the screen as XS as standard or is it like the tow assist?
Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get my head around it all.

Thanks Dave
Just seen there is an Electric Seat and arm pack which is guess is electric seats
Just found the spec sheets for MY12 which will be around the age i am looking at... http://www.landrover.com/content/gb/en/pdf...SE_GWS.pdf
I think i will want one complete with:
Xenon Lighting/Vision Assist Pack
Parking Aid (Camera)/Surround Camera
Keyless Entry
Tow Pack - Could do this myself though
Possibly - Electric Seat and Armrest Pack
Are they all keyless start even if they are not Keyless entry
Active Rear Diffs - Do i need these, not planning on doing much off road.
Do they all come with detachable swan necks?
Thanks for all your help!

XS comes with projector halogens as standard, they look very very similar to Xenons and with phillips bulbs are not to bad, nowhere near as dim as other halogens. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

The 8 speed auto (with rotary gear selector) also comes with the 256BHP engine (so slight higher power output)
I'm 6'4" and have no problem with headroom. and the seats in a D4 are much more comfortable than the D3, with more support under the back of you legs (seat seems longer to me)

Re the cameras...don't bother...the only one that is any good is the rear facing one.... Can count the number of times I've used the others on one hand..they're rubbish!!
Great to show off but in reality a total waste of money.

If you really want a manual D4 you'll have to go older, they were certainly available on 10 plates. Came with 3L or 2.7L engine, most were GS spec but you could also get commercial spec ...... prob not what you want Nick
2010 D4 ....... now gone and replaced with a 05RRV Autobiography

I'm a fag paper under 6ft 7" tall and it's a close thing with headroom and comfort. The extra seat adjustment and the tad more headroom (due to the panoramic roof) on the HSE, is a primary reason for me choosing that spec. for my last D3 and current D4.
Some people have longer legs or bodies etc. so height is a bit misleading, you really need to take your time trying out the seats and if possible getting a really long test drive.
I really wanted a TVR Cerbera, but despite ample legroom I didn't have nearly enough headroom. It caused some argument with TVR, as they were adamant that Peter Wheeler was the same height as me and he fitted in perfectly. It turned out that we were indeed the same height, but the late great Mr Wheeler had particularly long legs!

LT has a bit more experience of the height available, but I have to say on some cars, you get more headroom without a sunroof, as there's no sunroof opening mechanism to have to cater for inside the roof. Dont know if the D3/D4 has this same setup.

Al, you're right, normally a sunroof will eat into interior headroom of a car. In some cases by a considerable amount.
This is not the case with the D3 and D4 and the Panoramic Roof.
Due to the roof opening out and up (instead of sliding into a gap between the headlining and the roof) there's actually a little bit more headroom. It's shown in the tech. spec. on the sales brochure.
It's only a tiny amount more, but it all helps, especially on a long journey. If I was any taller I'd not be comfy in the D4.
Whilst I could live without it, I really enjoy having a sunroof in the Disco and use it a lot.
The D3, with it's plainer less sculpted seats was better for me
Worth noting that certainly on 2006 HSE models with the memory seats and dipping wing mirrors, there was more seat adjustment than the electric seats on the SE (and possibly an option on the other models).

Mmm, see it's called an Alpine Roof now. Sure it used to be Panoramic?
Here's the interior headroom in mm for standard and Alpine roof
Front row 1020-1027
2nd Row 1043-1076
3rd Row 983-1018

Happy to be corrected, but I'd have a sportsmans bet that the 3.0L was only ever available with an auto box. There was an early 2.7L D4 which could be specced with a manual.
