Speed sensor, I did look at that but things with wires scare me in general.

Held in by an M4 set screw, looks like it should be easy enough to change, but where is the connector? ( I suppose that might be worth checking - that the connection is good)

Timing is always key, meant to be taking it south in a weeks time and thought I would change the wheel bearing so as it was 'just so', I usually wait till they are roaring so that I can make sure I get the correct one.

The connector is up behind the inner wheel arch. You don't need to remove the whole thing just remove the fixings around the in centre and pull it down enough to get access - its fairly flexible but it's useful the have something to hand go wedge it with to stop it springing back

A big thanks to all who helped, espescially blue200tdi and Flack who were right on the Money

Changed the speed sensor (had to remove the wheel bearing again to get the old one out) and all is right as rain.

A big thanks also to Advanced factors, who on the strength of one e-mail got the part to me next day delivery, which is for a good job as I didn't fancy a 400mile trip without the speedo.
