Anyone any recent experience? Have come up best quote by miles for the D4, I'm very conscious though that cheapest isn't always the right answer with insurance. Wondered what others thoughts were?

I have been with them for a couple of years with D4, nobody else comes close. No problems, but then I haven't claimed, they are part of direct line though I believe.
When my renewal came through it was over £150 more than an on line quote, a quick call and they matched it without quibbling. You also get multi policy discounts if you have another car or house insurance with them. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

I have been with privilege for about 6 years now, every time the renewal comes through you have to phone and challenge the price, it soon goes down by a few hundred quid.
One thing to watch is there claims department aren't the best, a couple of years ago I had to use the claims team. Most where really good, but one women who claimed to be a senior handler was rubbish, I had to keep reminding her she was acting on my behalf and I did not have to do as she advised.
Short version of claim, I overtook a women and when I pulled in after the overtake I had to ease off the accelerator, but she drove into back of me. First thing she said was my eyes are bad and I didn't see you brake, she put that in her police statement as we'll. Senior handler said it was my fault and was going to pay out, I advised he not too. She then said I could not have left enough room before pulling in, I explained that there was a clear 2second gap between us. She had never heard of the 2second rule and said I was making it up.
A different adviser said she should not have said that and they should not be paying out.
Long and short the new adviser challenged third party insurance with an eye test, just like I had been asking the other claim handler to do. The third party insurance didn't have a leg to stand on, so they dropped all claims. d4 HSE in Corris Grey with Black options pack

But why is it that with EVERY company, the renewal is a lot higher than you can get from a new quote, and then they will normally match it if you call them? Are they really expecting us to be so stupid as to not check (although I know a lot of people don't).
This happened with all three of our car insurances this year, and we even got two of them cheaper than last by staying with Privilige. Also happened with the house insurance yesterday, its really starting to p*****s me off! Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Thanks for the helpful comments. Changed to them today, saved £120 over next best quote and got a lower excess as well. Hopefully won't need to find out how good they are in the event of a claim!

Just renewed with Privilege. Their renewal quote was £340 ish and their online quite was £253 ish. Phoned up and they matched it.
On the subject of excesses, the paper quote was £250 Voluntary Excess and the Compulsories were £500 for F&T and £500 for Accidental Damage. I adjusted the online quote to £0 Voluntary and the Compulsories dropped to £250. How does that work for their business? If I had an accident under the original postal quote it would have cost me £750. With the online quote adjusted to £0 it will cost only £250. So the insurers appear to me to be £500 worse of in the event.
Anyway, the sales chap put it through as is and I am about £80 better off. SWMBO is tamping because the difference between her postal and online quotes was only a quid.

Tried to get a quote from Privelage and after going through all the details including telling them i had had a remap done at the start of the call it was not until the end they said they do not cover remapped vehicles. Would have been nice if they stated this before i went through all the details of the vehicle and drivers etc.

Yes they do, my D3 was remapped and disclosed, make sure you say its for economy. If its below a certain percentage increase the premium stays the same Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Maybe there policy has changed as i made it clear it had a remap for economy and they said they did not cover remapped vehicles, just come off the phone to them.
