suspension fault or not

Now I've just read the HDC thread and low battery seems common, but also mentioned is cheapo bulbs.

now recently I've been getting the suspension fault message and orange symbol, but the suspension works fine, however i have recently changed a rear indicator bulb for a cheapo halfrauds... Any likly connection?

Usually it would be stop/tail bulbs that could cause Possibly cause HDC faults etc. Not heard any probs from indicator bulbs but then again anything is possible with a D3!!

Just a couple of weeks ago I had the "Suspension Fault" come on the display. Classic symptom of low battery charge state. Wife flattened the battery about 3 weeks prior allowing kids to watch DVD player for ages while waiting outside for kids piano lesson. That probably didn't do it any good. I put it on overnight charge but that was really only to defer the inevitable battery replacement.

So she took it down to the battery place, they confirmed the cold cranking amps were only 350 (instead of the rated 700 CCA). So replaced it and problems have gone away.

I have also seen "HDC fault" as a precursor to failed/failing battery, Ive not had any better than two years out of a battery in the D3, is this typical for others?

Regards

Pete.

Well the original battery from my 2006 D3 lasted 6 years. I was getting a few "HDC faults" before I replaced it before it gave me further problems. It still lives in my garage as an emergency battery.

The replacement (original LR) battery lasted a grand total of 17 months before it dropped a cell. The original battery was called back out of retirement for a few days till I got a replacement.

Now on a Varta AGM ... 4 months and counting....

My batteries have a tougher life due to frequent short trips. I still don't forgive the replacement battery for failing after 17 months. I bought the car in 2010, hence the original battery was 4 years old, and it still lived 24 months in the same conditions and could probably do more too...

With the new Varta AGM I made it a point to drop a charger on it every 3 or 4 weeks. That should help it stay topped up.
