I like the idea but would the battery status LEDs not be on all the time though?

Advise on CTEK charger

Not sure if I am in the correct thread but would appreciate some advise on a CTEK battery charger.
I had the misfortune of a flat battery when I left the keys of my locked discovery 4 the other side of the garage wall and did not use the car for a week.
Ever since I have been meaning to purchase a CTEK battery charger purely to keep the battery in good condition. This week Amazon are holding their Black Friday deals and the lower spec CTEK charger MXS 3.6 was on offer for £29 so I purchased one. I understand that this model will be slow to charge but I wanted to try before purchasing a more expensive model.
A few questions:
1) The CTEK instruction manual does say in one place to connect the negative crock clip to the chassis, the additional comfort lead only fixes to the terminals behind the holding nuts. Can I connect both comfort leads direct to the battery? If so, I want to remove the negative terminal lead from the battery for safely, as advised, in order to connect the comfort lead, will this have any adverse effects on the electrics when I reconnect?
2) The vehicle manual on page 208 states that the battery should be removed for charging; can I assume the CTEK overrides this requirement?
3) The vehicle manual and the CTEK manual both state that there should be adequate ventilation around the battery when charging. I want to close the bonnet and lock the vehicle while the battery is charging, is this ok to do this? Admittedly the charger will remain outside the vehicle.
4) Can you also advise on what ah size battery is fitted to the Discovery 4? The recommended battery size for the charger is: Charging 7.0 – 75 AH Maintenance charging 7.0 – 120Ah. Many thanks

Black insulation tape works and you can leave the red one exposed if you want warning that something is amiss.

Tufty, I like that idea and am not bothered by the thought of the green led flashing all the time. Was it easy to cut the fake vent to take the connector?

PMFJI but why (in normal use) would you need this ?

The battery should be well able to withstand normal charge/discharge duty cycle ...

Adding in the ctek point was quite straightforward there are only a few bits of the plastic mesh to cut with some sharp wire cutters and a hole to drill for the cable.

Glue in with some epoxy and you are there.

Current (ha ha) thinking is that the earth should be bolted to the chassis about 1m from the battery terminal to avoid confusing the poor old ecu.

And yes only add it if your battery needs charging or conditioning regularly. And in my personal opinion Brian the answer is no, it doesnt.

can i ask how you keep the lead dry ? sounds a great idea to keep it there and easy access but I'm worried about water getting in

The lead has a rubber watertight cap that is fitted when the charger is not connected Thumbs Up

Yes, I use the same system as GVW and never had a problem. You just have to make sure that the rubber bung is replaced fully after use Thumbs Up
