Suspension Failure - Normal Height Only Message

I have been getting this message for the last week or so, every other day. I have searched through relevant threads on here and there appears to be a myriad of possible reasons/issues (leaks, compressor, dryer, ride height sensors, etc).

The message appears in the info centre and an amber warning light is illuminated in the bottom left corner of the dashboard. This has only occurred whilst the vehicle has been driving and by stopping, turning off the ignition and immediately restarting the engine both the message and the warning light are cleared.

The suspension does not drop overnight. In fact the vehicle spends all day in a station car park at off road height to help avoid dents from other car doors - I have never picked it up again in the evening and found that it has lowered itself.

The compressor does make the odd 'compressor like' noise sometimes but nothing alarming that sounds particularly strenuous and as I say, it doesn’t lose height when parked.
I did have one episode a couple of weeks back where the dash’ turned into a Christmas tree, fatal suspension failure reported and the vehicle would not start at all. I locked the car up, came back 10 minutes later and all had returned to normal. This has never happened again but I did buy a spare brake light switch to keep in the back just in case.

I’ll try a hard reset at the weekend and is it worth swapping out the brake light switch any way?

Any suggestions that might help properly diagnose this one or do I need to get the faults read before having a chance?

Cheers,

Darren

Its your compressor failing you can either put a new one on or try one of the repair kits on Fleabay.
If you try to repair it you might be lucky or the parts you need to remove will be seized up and break when you try to remove them.

Thanks Mick Thumbs Up

Is it worth a punt for a second hand compressor on eBay or am I realistally looking at a circa £400-£500 bill here?

Someone has mentioned that it might be worth a shot to replace the compressor relay. Is that true?

Cheers,

Darren

You can try it just swap it with the one next to it that will tell you if its that but I very much doubt it.

Can anyone offer their opinion as to what would be considered a fair price from an Indie to supply and fit a suspension compressor?

Cheers,

Darren

I got lucky with a secondhand pump from a very kind member (cheers again Adigorn Thumbs Up )
Otherwise TLO can get a great price on a new AMK. Rule of thumb is an hour charge to fit one or DIY if you're either brave or handy enough.

I got it a few weeks back and microwaved the compressor silica and so far it has been fine.
I've been told to change a valve too but haven't got round to it yet.

Cost so far, 3 hrs under the landy.
