mmmm...
I am told that whilst it is "presented" as leaving the forces the reality is that he has actually taken redundancy due to one of Dave's friends privatising the rescue station/service...clearly a part of the austerity programme.
Maybe it could actually help with the "common touch" if that is the case, and it was publicised?...assuming it is correct!!
A further twist is that the guard dogs used to protect him whilst at the station have just been put down by the MOD ...not quite so good!
