Central locking fault

Our central locking no longer opens the rear left passenger door. All the other doors still unlock and I can still manually lock and unlock the door. You can still hear it attempting to unlock and the lock above the handle moves a couple of mm but not enough to operate. Unusually the global closing of the windows also doesn't work on the same door??? Any thoughts??

Thanks in advance for your time.

Just used the search function and seen this may be a common fault. Interesting to note that it is on the side with the child lock. I have had the door card off and can see that there seems to be a mechanism hidden within the door beside the lock at the rear edge of the door. Is this the known faulty part?

The new epidemic- door locks failing

My 09 Discovery 4 has a year's warranty since I bought it S/H in April. Recently both the passenger front and passenger rear door locks have started playing up and would not unlock on the central locking whether fob or by keyless door handle. Sometimes they unlocked, sometimes they did not. They would always lock so it took me a while to recognise it as a fault.

The dealers faithfully picked it up and instead of the loan car we had agreed I got stewardship of the delivery driver's car. That aside, they rang the next day and told me it would be £660 to supply and fit two locks. I smugly told them it was bad news for whoever they had to tell, but it wasn't me! That confusion was resolved but then they rang the next day and said one of the new locks was faulty and it would take an extra day.

Bad luck on owners out of warranty. I am praying the other two locks go before the warranty is up or maybe they were replaced before my ownership. Curiously, central locking is a mixed blessing. In the old days before central locking the only failures were driver's doors as the others were rarely unlocked or opened. Now, they all unlock and all get wear. Such is progress.

My wife has an 2002 ML270cdi and I have had great tribulation replacing those door locks which are similarly flawed. In the process I have become an expert and have reduced the 2 hours self labour to 45 minutes. In time maybe I can become an expert on the Disco!

My 55 disco had a similar problem with the front passenger door, and rather than pay someone, thought I'd have a go.

Bought the lock, then opened the Haynes manual and started stripping the door.

Removed panel,, weather strip, speaker, glass, door handle, all workin under a tarpaulin to keep the rain away (did it yesterday and started in the sunshine lol).

Fitted lock and then put it all back together, now working perfectly, and now ready for the Lakes next week.
