TDV6 valve cover oil leak rear left and right corner
Hello
I've been restoring a Discovery 3 for six months now and would like to travel through Europe in it over the next few years. I've been struggling with two gruelling oil leaks for two days now, after replacing both valve cover seals in April. The only leaks are in the two corners at the rear left and right and only between the cylinder head and gasket. I have already tried tightening and loosening it and it has not brought any improvement. Have any of you already had the same problem or do you have a tip on how to solve this problem without dismantling the whole valve cover (and the thousand parts before)?

Best regards

I think it must need some sealant on the valve cover at the rear.

Hello Pete
You mean sealing the corners of the half-moons with some sealant? I did that when I replaced the valve cover gasket. With the help of a mirror I could see that the oil was not coming from the half-moons.
I tried again today to seal the leaks by loosening and gently tightening the screws in the corners, unfortunately without success.
Perhaps I will have to remove the valve covers with all the necessary preparatory work and refit them...

Correct, the manual specifies using sealant in the corners of the valve covers near the camshaft caps.

The secret to Valve cover oil leaks is to use a Cork gasket and not tighten it too much.

didn't know they did cork ones.
I would have thought there would be too many shapes and curves for cork
