Ah-ha ! that May Be the key ?

I think or from what i understand the pre 57 ones were like that but the slightly later ones are not, i,m not entirely sure of this so please don't take it as gospel, as they say some on will be along in a minute who knows considerably more than me ?

Interesting reading tho as i am wanting a de-cat pipe for mine.............. Whistle

@chalky - The changeover was on late 2008 Auto models only, as far as I can tell. Looking on Microcat at the part numbers, All 2.7 models have the same part number, except late 2008 (58 plate) and newer Autobox models which have a different part number. There is a chassis number cut off point, which I don't have to hand right now. Quite what the differences are, I am not really sure?

I do wonder if we have had a dodgy batch of decats, as the outside diameter of these 409 grade pipes is 1mm too big, and will not offer into the front silencer of our 304 grade sports exhausts. Our sports systems are made to OE size, so will fit snugly onto the OE cat pipe.

We no longer make 304 grade decat pipes, as they were too expensive to make, and the benefits were (in my opinion) negligable. The ones we did have made however, were always a perfect fit.

I suspect it was a faulty batch of pipes, as both Pete and I have been affected at much the same time.

From what i have seen in the past these De-cat pipes were all one piece Mandrel Bent ! I know one of the other forum members "THE TRANSFORMER" has one of these and it looks like it should ? All one piece with the flexi coupling up front.

These one seem to be cut and welded ? Slip jointed. to try and get round the bend ?

The only question i have is this, In preperation for my re-map i am looking at upgrading a few items, the bypass pipe being one of them, will the jointed exhaust disturb the flow "out" ?

i'm not wanting to ditch the original Cats in favour of putting this on thats no more free flowing ?
Does that make sense or am i talking cobblers,

You can be honest i've got big enough shoulders !!!!!!! Thumbs Up

The ones I had made are pictured on the forum and are mandrel bent. That said this can be done any time if you wish but it won't add masses of bhp it will only improve air flow from the turbo and make things a little crisper.

I didn't have any more made for out of show season sales because they just dont move fast enough to warrant the stocking amount I needed to buy just to get the price down.

Ps. A welded slip joint is perfectly good as the inner of the exhaust will be almost smooth because the outer is stretched over the inner maintaining the inner diameter all through the exhaust.

Thanks Pete

How many do u need to get made to make getting the mandrel bent ones at an economically viable price !
I was just wondering about getting a group buy organised ?

I know it sounds a bit anal but I would much rather have the mandrel bent one ?

Cheers

Wasn't when you posted but it is now. As long as you know a sympathetic mot tester you'll be okay though. Wink

Whoops. Read the rules wrong. Only applies to cars that qualify for an emission test (petrol) that originally had a cat fitted and of course diesel cars are just a smoke test. Sorry for confusion. Embarassed
