My turn my new to me V8 suffered this very problem only had it a month so teething troubles expected. Quick search and up popped the problem and how to fix it.
I got creative and filled a syringe with superglue, not the crap from your everyday shop but some proper strenght stuff from a well know trade retail outlet.
Cleaned up around the column and ring 1st with a few cotton buds dipped in cleaner and let it dry then dripped the glue in the right place and let it set.
Seems all OK

Has anyone got a picture of the actual position of the yellow ring when the vehicle is brand new so that you can twist to that position before glueing.

All you need todo here is set the ring in place before you unbolt and lift up the actual sensor. This will give you a ruff idea where it goes.
Lift the sensor up carefully then glue the ring into position. I used decent superglue from screwfix not the crap they sell in the shops.
Once the glue is set refit the sensor and recalibrate......

Does anyone know if the Steering angle sensor has to be programmed with the VIN on a computer running LR software?
I tried recalibrating mine and it lost the VIN number from the Steering Angle Sensor Module.
All I get is a reading of 5773.5 and the diagnostics comes up as unsuccessful when I try to calibrate.
I have tried plugging in a secondhand sensor and for the first 30 seconds after ignition turned on the diagnostics shows good readings, then it pings, the lights on the dash come on and reading goes to 5773.5. I am guessing this is at the point the vehicle sees a conflict with the VIN maybe??
I have not tried calibrating this one yet as the original and a previous used one both lost VIN numbers and locked at 5773.5 when I tried this before; so keeping this as is for now until I hopefully find out more
The fact that for 30 seconds I get readings makes me think that wiring and everything else is good, I'm convinced it must be something to do with getting the VIN into the sensor.
Any ideas?

Out of interest, what are you using to set the steering angle sensor with?Must stop buying shiny toys....

Hi I'm using an Autel MaxiCheck Pro, it has the Steering Angle Calibration option.

My gap tool readings the yaw rate flickers from zero to what ever every couple of seconds but I'm sure that's normal

Thanks for posting the images of your sensor readings.
Our Yaw Rate is stuck at a figure as is the Lateral Acceleration....
Have changed the ABS ECU and also the Yaw Rate/Lateral Accell sensor under the centre cubby box - but the values have not changed even with the replacement gear!
Next up is to chase the wiring.... check for +12 and good ground to the sensor and then then continuity from the sensor to the ABS connector!
