Folks
Last summer I changed both rear discs, brakes, and callipers as the old callipers were binding and shot; they got very hot and lots of black smoke if I braked hard.
However under medium to heavy braking the rear now squeals when I move off, and it appears to be the same side as the old calliper that was binding.
It isn't enough to feel like they are binding as if I free wheel it doesn't stop the car, and after a about 100 yards if I speed up it goes away, The annoying thing is when I brake and then drive in slow moving traffic it squeals for ages.
Any ideas?

Epb shoes sticking you need to strip and clean and make sure nothing is seizing up.

As Flack says
Had same thing last year,stripped and cleaned and for good measure used a new spring kit ,was quite a build up of crud on my shoes gave them a rub over with course emery and re fitted sorted MY24 Defender 90 X-Dynamic HSE
MY18 Disco 5 HSE Santorini Black Now Gone.

How does braking effect them? I thought there were independent of the actual braking system, as opposed to the old fashioned drum brakes where the same shoes worked under braking and as the handbrake? Current - Range Rover TDV8 2007 HSE.

I did mine last weekend, just a build up of dust and dirt inside the drum. Discs off and a good clean out and copper grease on the rubbing points.

Similar breaking problem with squeeling brakes |

Hi,
I think I’m having a similar problem and wanted to get peoples opinions before either attempting to strip down myself and give it a go, or whether to ask a local garage to have a look.
Last week when pulling off just noticed the rear right wheel squeaking (we’ll that’s the one my wife pointed to when running alongside the car!), sounds rotational as it’s faster or slower depending on speed. Goes away around 30mph and then gone until I put foot on the brakes and then it starts again. I initially thought it sounded like a similar EPB brake shoe issue sticking, but then why would it be affected only when I put my foot on the brake? The epb is separate to the rear brake callipers right? If I apply the brake hard or soft it doesn’t affect the sound at all.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated,

rear calipers are a common problem on these.
Slider pins and caliper piston.
Rear calipers are cheap

or just make sure the pads are free to move in the caliper, they often get gunged up and a simple removal, clean, careful lubrication and replace can solve the problem

It may be the springs that hold the shoes in position, if one has failed it allows the shoe to move from the back plate position and rub on the rotating drum.
LR recommend a strip down every 50miles if used off road It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

So finally got around to stripping the whole lot down this weekend and M3DPO was right. Turns out one of the pins and retaining clips had failed on the brake shoes, allowing the shoe to drift away from the hub and rub against the inside of the drum. All replaced and fixed, with no squeaking! Replaced the rusty worn drums and brake pads while I was there anyway.
Although during the ‘bedding in’ procedure for the new shoes I got a park brake fault and it locked up! Luckily an engine restart seems to have rectified that!
