saw nsr tyre was looking a bit low yesterday so pumped it up. 4 hours later, down to 12psi
pumped it up to get home and, of course, it's as flat as a flat thing in a flat place this morning.
pumped it up to avoid damage whilst moving it to where I can swap the wheel ... and the fun started.
Wheel winches down (and up) happily, so it doesn't seem to be usual cable knotted in the assembly problem BUT I don't seem to have as much slack as I need to wriggle the toggle piece through the RLD protector and the wheel centre.
tried lowering it onto a block of wood to keep the RLD up against the back of the wheel, but managed to get it "stuck" at an angle. OK, not technically stuck as it will move, but always goes back to being angled when I raise/lower it to try and free it.
could cable be knotted just for last couple of turns of the winch ? I've made sure it was never wound in without a suitable weight attached.
Not going to rush into cutting the cable or removing the winch (driving to a repair place later and they can just fix the spare whilst car is on jacks - and if they can't fix it, I have a space saver I can use).
Any ideas, oh wise ones ? .
Dean

Had a similar thing and ended up sitting with my legs under the back of the car and taking the weight of the spare on my legs while fiddling with the cable to get the thing out (sometimes really easy but other times a complete )... might be worth a go if you can?
Otherwise a trolley jack once the wheel is down to take some weight and give some clearance (similar to what you've already tried but gives you more height)... I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Lots of WD40 on the unit and on the cable, and a few winches up and down, all good now...
Another trick is to pull the wheel back towards you as it comes down... keeps weight on the cable for longer and might help with that extra inch ! I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Tried that wheel just about reaches floor in off road height, so had a block of wood under the middle bit to create slack, but it wasn't enough. .

on the positive side ... it was a screw almost in the middle of the tread, so repaired. Took longer to find somewhere that could do it today without a long wait that it did for them to sort it. £15 ... not paid for one for a couple of years but I thought that was south of a tenner.
or maybe that's why the place I used didn't have a queue ?

I'd pay £15 to have a tyre fixed. Especially if there was no queue. The tyre person's time must be about that I'd have thought.

From my experience £15 is pretty cheap Gary

£25 in Kwik Fit apparently, if you can persuade them to sort it rather than trying to flog you a new tyre

Most places charge £10 for either removing or refitting a tyre so £15 is pretty good! I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

For Costco members, Repair, new valve and balance £9.99.
That is probably plus Vat,so say £12. Seen 7/03/22.

wish I'd known that. They were too quick to have balanced unless it was perfect and I'm not even sure if I got a new valve. .

could just do with some warm weather ... and I'm going to try bike chain-oil on the cable.
