Spare Wheel Winch on a 2016MY with DEF |
|
Hi,
Some low life has stolen my Spare Wheel from my car.
I've spoken to my local Dealer about the price of the parts, at an eye watering £1200, as I'm paying for it out of my own pocket, I want to keep the costs down.
I've done a search on here but can't find the answer, has anyone replaced their spare wheel winch on a car fitted with a DEF tank, how easy/difficult is it, the Dealer seems to think its a pain to do as the DEF tank has to be drained and removed?
Thanks 1970 RRC

Before you do anything I suggest you order a spare wheel protector from "Uncle Ray" - RLD:-

There seems to be 4 different Part Numbers on eBay for these.
I notice the part in the link has a Hex Bolt head on the pinion that winds the cable, mine has tang that the jack hooks into, did yours have a DEF tank?
Looked at the Powerful video but theres was a D3 and as you say its a few 10mm bolts and Nylok nuts and its done. 1970 RRC

Mine's a 2012/13 D4 and has the loop rather than the hex head.

I believe you have already worked out the reason the scrotes do this ... check ebay/gumtree etc. and look for your wheel appearing. .

have a look at this too ...
Hardware17 wrote:when I got my RLD wheel protector from Uncle Ray, he advised me that it's been known for the scrotes to turn the wheel round and round until the cable snaps. can't see from your picture if this revised part would prevent that. it's only possible if there is a bit of slack in the cable ... so checking every few weeks should keep it safe.
I made a mod to the RLD protector ... http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic156797.html .
