I'm not saying it makes it ok ...I'm saying your "value" comparison is rubbish
I don't agree. It's a vehicle, made on a state of the art production line, which should have strict quality control. It's not a house built manually.
JLR are marketing themselves as a Premium brand, with prices to reflect this. It's not too much to expect that all the doors open and close correctly.
As for value comparison, if it was a new Dacia costing £10k you might put it down to "you get what you pay for".2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

All I said was "Pretty poor on vehicles costing in excess of £55k".
Your comparison of a D4 to a new build house or development project was rubbish. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

It was just to highlight the crassness of your expectation 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I don't see what was crass about that comment. Unless your implying that as the D4 is Land Rover it would be stupid to expect it to have fully functional doors. In which case, it would seem that you're sadly right. I mean sad as in LR still can't get to grips with basic quality control from one year to the next.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

landwind x7
I have noticed for a while the ewoks tailgates are all over the place. I was driving behind an ewok and alongside came the landwind X7 which is clearly not a copy as the tailgate shutlines were perfect.
case against landwind for copywrite closed.(but maybe not squarely from LR side)
check the shut lines youself
landwind made in china in a truck repair shop after 10 days design tributing

It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

It doesn't mean that at all. My comment was simply an expression of my thoughts about the fact that the tailgate was incorrectly aligned on my last two D4's. Which I consider to be "pretty poor".
I do, in most circumstances, expect quality to be commensurate with price. Of course in reality that isn't always the case. As this thread proves.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I'm surprised the Chinese haven't launched their own version of the D5 yet Cheers Ian

LT I agree, it's not much to ask of a company that's making a lot of profit too build a car properly or at least pick up on quality control issues before they leave the factory. In 6 months my one has been back for poor shutting tailgate, suspension bushes greased and now temperature display is out.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Yes, I think we all agree that the tailgate not being correctly aligned on a vehicle costing in excess of £55k is pretty poor. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I've heard form someone in the JLR design department that shut lines are a problem for them and they can't get the same quality and consistancy as their German competitors......
