United Kingdom 2012 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 HSE Auto Orkney GreyDiscovery 4
what shall I do?

Hi Guys

Have decided to change our 2011 model year disco 4 for a new 2012 model year.
Our dealer has a new Orkney grey car in stock.
The dealer has offered me a good trade in value on our current car, and I went for a test drive in the new 8 speed model this morning. The car is a big step forward in driveability, and much more responsive on the throttle!

My problem is that they also had a 2011 11 plate full size range rover TDv8 4,4 with 200 miles on the clock, and are offering me the same deal bar 200 pounds on this car!

So for my money, I can either have a brand new disco 4, 8 speed, or a full size range rover with 200 miles on the clock in Orkney with ivory leather.

What would you do, cos I just can't decide!

They are obviously discounting the range rovers because the new model is out later this year, but it still seems a lot of car for the money!

1. Do you need the 7 seats or the space of the D4?

2. Do you have the tweed jacket and Hunter wellies required to own the FFRR?

I would guess the residual on the D4 may be higher, more of a market for on sale than the FFRR???

Would think the running cost would be more for the FFRR as well. Have just got my new D4 2012 and love it, know where I would go D4

If you get the disco and regret your decision you'll get almost all your money back, not so the FFRR.

Go D4.

D4 Smile
As has been said before - You'll not get the residual on the RR Sad Mind you, it all depends on how long you intend to keep it! I suspect you might be in the same position in 12 months time in which case, the D4 WILL have a much higher trade in value than the RR. You could always get the Disco now and trade to the NEW RR next year??

Good luck though - I think you appear to be in a win win situation as far as car choice is concerned Smile

If the difference is only £200, that would suggest that there has already been a huge depreciation in the FFRR. If that's the case, isn't the FFRR the way to go? I'll get me coat.

Check out what you need in the way of interior space, had a friend who traded in his FFRR for a Disco4 because he could not get dogs/grand children/golf clubs in satisfactorily (although not all at once!!)

Having been in both, and if you don't need the extra space, it would have to be a FFRR. It's just soooooo much nicer inside, and a better engine in my view. According to LR, (I was reading their running costs poster in the dealers earlier this month) the difference in ownership costs (LESS DEPRECIATION!) are about the same as the D4 3.0l. You could probably find that kind of useless spin on LR's website, also.
