The Ministry of Public Works in conjunction with the autoroute operators provide a free public TMC service covering the French autoroute network and broadcast along motorways nationwide on the Autoroute Radio 107.7FM channel. This has worked well for me in the past, but I haven't tried the D3 system there yet.. no reason why it shouldn't work being a public service.
Since 2000, traffic information provider Mediamobile also offers V-Trafic (http://www.v-trafic.com/), a TMC service for France. This service provides traffic information over the internet, via mobile phones, GPRS-equipped PDA and TMC-enabled satellite navigation systems - though I have to say I have not heard of anyone who has got this second option to work - I expect Ford have not licenced it yet...!

Well I never could get the TMC working with 107.7 FM... Thus, by listening to the radio, I can do my own TMC...
But trust me, it does'nt work with the built-in system...

Perhaps the word then is 'merde...!'
The TMC in the Beemer worked OK on the 107.7 frequency - but I guess Land Rover need to pay the fee to the commercial radio chaps..
Anyway - outside Paris and any other time than August - you don't need TMC!!
Such a big place and so few people compared to good ol' blighty...
No wonder all the 'Ros Boeufs' are buying up the property..!!!

There, I disagree with you... South of Lyon, you always need the TMC to check on what is ahead on that infamous A6 Motorway... Except maybe at three AM... And even then, sometimes...

The problem is that with the prices you guys are ready to pay it is becoming too expensive for the locals...

I suspect that the weather correlation relates to a reception issue. Mine loses Classic FM from time to time, but quickly corrects itself.
Mine does not correct itself. You have to re-tune to Classic FM, which seems to take an age - about 4 to 5 mins. It's booked into the dealer just before easter, so I will see what he makes of it. It's useless as it is.

I'm not very impressed with the TMC traffic warnings. I frequently get notices of problems ahead or alternative routes, but rarely these problems actually exist. So much so, that I've also installed TrafficMaster SmartNav, as this gets it correct as it is reading the road conditions in real time.
However, today when driving on the M62 near Goole, I got frequent warnings of strong winds ahead on the TMC. Then the motorway rose up on a large arched bridge which was very exposed. Quite impressive that TMC knew about this.
TMC is quite impressive for passengers in the car, but for a driving aid it is pretty useless as it is so unreliable. TrafficMaster is so much better. Matt

i am not convinced by TMC, either i dont go near traffic congestion (unlikely as i commute A34/M40/A404M/M4 to Reading) or its just poor. I did get a "torrential rain ahead" warning but we were already in the middle of a monsoon on the M6 so it just made us laugh ironically! TDV6 HSE Buckingham Blue and still smiling

I'm always on those roads you mention and TMC is showing red accident or congestion symbols on the A34 almost all the time. I ignore them and 90% of the time there is nothing there or no delay at all. Matt
