Rust on metal plates under driver/passenger seats
Hi All,
Looking to purchase a 2013 Discovery 3 HSE with low miles (36k), when looking under the car there is a fair amount of surface rust on many of the metal panels, I also noticed that on the silver metal panels under the driver/passenger seats there was a lot of surface rust. Is this normal on a 5 year old Discovery or should I avoid this car and look elsewhere?
The car looks to be in a really nice and well looked after condition outside of the above, in terms of the rust on the underside of the front seats I wondered if it was caused by people with wet shoes in the passenger seats or if there was a damp problem in the car from maybe a blocked sunroof drainage etc. is there any other tell tail thing to look for if it is a damp issue? after having all the dry weather recently the carpets are dry.
Thanks in advance

D3 and 4s suffer from it regardless of miles covered
get nice direct on rust hammerite spray to get it sorted for long time
mine has been same in previous as well as in present bus
quatliy has not changed much

Thank you for confirming that, are under your front chairs the same as well (I assume you were referring to the surface rust underneath the car?)

Rust on underside of the seats isn’t unusual, have it on my D4. Didn’t have it on my D3 as only the rear seats were sat in only a couple of times in the life of the car. Sad I know.
Re rust underneath, don’t worry about it unless your OCD kicks in. Something big and expensive failing will kill the car well before the tin worm is finished.
Cynical, moi? Absatidellingtootlie.

D3/4 chassis would take loads of offroad abuse to get rotten well
normal surface rust on the chassis isnt a probelm
if it bugs you cosmetically you can spray paint it with black direct onto rust hammerite which will suffice or go via route of doing proper weatherproofing the vehicle with waxolyl or similar but would not stress
seat bases I noticed go rusty very quick
