Replacing both inlet manifolds
Hello all.
It appears now it the time to replace my inlet manifolds as the car goes into limp mode every time i go up a steep hill or when it gets hot.
Checking my Autel AP100 I get the fault code P006A-00.
So i hooked up a smoke tester to see what was up. And joy of joy smoke pouring out the right side and gently oozing out of the left.

Following the joy of discovery it is now time to start dismantling. I need to get some decent torx drivers then will start.

I'll be taking this challenge on soon.
Are you lifting the front of the body up 100mm to give a bit more hand room?
I've put an initial review on the other thread about the aluminium intakes today if you want a read.

Hello Tyty, no, i will not be raising the body as i have no means to do so.
Currently in there stripping bits off and gaining skinned knuckles!

OK, worked it out.
I used a small screwdriver to push down and hold in place the black part while pulling up the white outer caseing with a pair of needle nose pliers. The I used the pliers to grip the raised white part and pull it off.

Darrind…..hello, is that the pipe that runs over the top of the engine with the bracket at the back that has two bolts that are barely accessible?
If so, yes, that was a right awkward thing to unbolt. As you look at the bracket the left bolt slowly unwound but i had to do some right fiddling to get leverage on the right hand bolt to get that off…done now. Now on to the injectors.

I think there is a bolt behind the cambelt cover too

Ok. I am a few hours in to the job and yes, it is a bit of an !
So far i have managed to remove the LH Inlet manifold and there is no part i would say is harder than any other….it all sucks. However none so far is insurmountable.
The worst part so far is dropping an 8mm ratchet spanner down the front of the engine quickly followed by an 8 mm nut….still can not find them.
One thing I did find was easy was removing the injectors. I have a large slide hammer, and loathe to buy a small job specific one i found this worked easily and well. I screwed the supply pipe back on to the top of the injector with a large washer underneath it that was there to give the two jaws a rim to grip on when the slide hammer was drawn back gently for each injector. Even the one under the bulkhead at the back, this one was not a dead straight hammer back action and was a little at an angle but gently tap tap tapping freed it very quickly.

Yes there were two!
I loosened the cam belt cover bolts, all are captive bolts so they stay in situ when loosened which is a bonus….well all but one, i undid a small nut that dropped…..no idea what that was from as it was all by touch!!
I then had enough gap when levering the cam belt cover forward to get at the two nuts in there.
I am ordering a small inspection mirror on amazon now so i can get a view at these bloomin things!

Ok, more time on this today.
So, the LH intake manifold is a bit awkward. The RH is very awkward! For clarity the RH is the one with the oil filler cap.
There is a bracket at the rear of the RH manifold that is held by two 10mm nuts. These are an exercise in patience to remove and then clever wrapping of my finger in gorilla tape to enure when loose they do not disappear down the back of the engine.
When they are removed you have yet another exercise in patience undoing the third 8mm nut that holds the fuel pipes to this bracket, once done, you split the bracket, and remove the half that clamps the pipes then lift it off the bolts, roll it forward and slowly wriggle it out….gods alive.
Then you can get a socket into the two rear most captive nuts holding the manifold.
Here is a picture so you get an idea of what you are removing.
