Pricing gets a little better... |
|
Further to my earlier post about Australian pricing being out of wack with world values (read overpriced), things have changed enough that I have ordered a new D4.
So what has changed? In some ways, nothing. The old pricing from model release 2 years ago is about the same, but 2 and a bit years later on, that makes it more affordable - god bless inflation. Add to that the landrover "Main Event" deal (they pay the onroads, dealer delivery and rego til end of Jan) plus a motivated dealer and suddenly its was looking a lot better. I saved roughly $14k on my new 12my HSE off list price on the road. And that was before a fairly generous trade in.
The car is on a boat now, so it is a 11/11 build, but a 2012 model and will be plated in Jan. That's another part of why they were ready to deal. So it has all the nice new 2012 fruit (including 10-spoke 19" alloys I've never even seen) and stuff like rear view camera and connectivity doohickies etc.
When I say ordered, I actually mean it was one that LandRover Australia and/or the Dealer had ordered and was inbound. It just happened to suit my 'wants" list. It is an HSE in orkney grey/almond interior with zero options. If I was buildign from scratch I might have been tempted by a nara bronze and the only option I might have added is the rear diff lock - though when i would use that is beyond me. Paying 25% car tax on options kinda means that you really don't want to order anything you can bolt on later. So i'll be adding roof racks and a luggage box in time. I'm hoping the loadspace mat from my D3 will go straight across (does anyone know?).
Funnily enough, I really could have gone with any of the colours other than black. Black is just a little too blingy. Ditto white a bit - I toyed with the idea, but they still look like stormtrooper helmets to me. (apologies to all those driving white cars) I prefer the lighter interiors (this is my third Disco) because they don't show up the sand and dirt as badly as the black and its a little cooler when left in the sun.
I'll let you know how it goes after I've driven it a bit. Disco 2 TD5 "Good"

Yeah, I thought about the 8 speed, but I'm not a huge fan of the knobby dial thing (I've used it in a Rangie) and the flappy paddles sound a bit crappy... So I was fine to stick with the 6 speed.
I'm looking forward to the extra urge tho. Disco 2 TD5 "Good"

Paying 25% car tax on options kinda means that you really don't want to order anything you can bolt on later.
Tax : 10% import , 10% GST , (3.5% Stamp , if not absorbed ) , 35% LCT over $57K ; where is this 25%
you talk of ?
In the last 21 months , Sterling is 10% weaker than Aussie . You can get $15k off an Sahara too ; RRP
are BS numbers to be played with. They gave you nothing . You paid what they wanted , otherwise
you'd still be in a D3 for 2012.
THE biggest downside of the new business model is the abolition of Dealer Pool . That's why there's no
choice of colours , because there's no "swap" facility anymore. They're nearly all black interiors too; boring !

Yes, Neil, of course I paid what they wanted, otherwise they would hardly have done the deal... Point is, I was a lot better off than 2 years ago. And of course, I paid what I wanted or I wouldn't have done it either.
Anyhooo... dealer said it arrives today and will be ready at the end of the week.
Looking forward to that! Disco 2 TD5 "Good"

Well its arrived, but the dealer won't have it ready til early next week. I might go and visit it to make sure its the right one and hug it a little...
Next task is roof bars and luggage box.
The Landrover genuine parts are $ $925 for the rails and bars kit, plus $ 1500 (!!!) for the box. So methinks a third party option will be better.
I like the low profile/sports/whatever bars like the OEM's and a big- box that will take ski's etc. Any suggestions? Disco 2 TD5 "Good"

The luggage mat fits perfectly. I did the same for my D4
I also imported the roof rails (long ones) and front and rear mud guard from the UK. Fitted the rails and mud guards myself - its very simple.
The saving was huge...... even with spending $130 on postage.

That's good to know.
My buddy is a roofrack fitter. He can sell me either the prorack whispers for about $380 or the rhino sports for about $480.
The proracks don't use rails, so they are a eater fit but we're not sure if they'll be spaced right for the luggage box. The rhinos include a rail. Problem is that all the sports profile racks can't slide cos of the wacky narrowing rails on the disco.
The luggae box options include a rhino 550 pro for $800 or there is a mofo thule but it is about $1200
I want a really long one for skiis and surfboards.
any opinions? Disco 2 TD5 "Good"

hi,
on my D4 I used Prorack whisper bars in Rhino recessed rails. The mix was necessary due to Prorack being unable to supply roof rails to suit the D4 in 2009 (don't know if this is still the case) and Rhino bars were not as quiet as Prorack so I wanted a better solution. TJM were happy to supply the mixed order.
hope this helps........................frank my10D4se3Ltdv6 current

prorack now make a system that fits. the problem is that the gap betwen the bars seems from the spec lie it is only 60cm... and that won't be nuff for the whopper rhino 550 box. in which case i'll go for the rhino rails and bars. might try your solution too. Disco 2 TD5 "Good"
