A-Pillar Trim fixing kit DHB 500400 |
|
As an aside to the posts on my other thread about running cabling to the spotlights on my roof basket.
I’ve been down to my local dealer and picked up a fitting pack for the outside A-Pillar trims on my D3.
The windscreen has been replaced in the past and the broken/missing clips and missing rubber washers have got me worried I’ll get a small amount of water in the cabin at some point.
The current clips all look to be the same design and moulded in white plastic, where as the kit I’ve collected contains the following:
8 x Yellow Clips with rubber washers - DZM 000070
2 x White Clips with rubber washers – PN 500050
2 x black plastic/rubber self adhesive discs – BNP 3996
It may be obvious when I open them up again over the weekend, but in preparation does anyone know where the White clips are used instead of the Yellow ones, and what the intended position and function of the self adhesive discs is?
Many Thanks

I've just had to change mine after a windscreen replacement... the dealer said the two white clips go at the top of each a-pillar trim and that the rubber pads were to cover the extra hole on each side of the bodywork (also near the top). The other 4 yellow clips per side are for the lower of the five fixings. Trouble is, as soon as I swapped mine the passenger side started fluttering on the motorway with a hell of a racket. Couldn't go above 50 before I'd put all the old clips back. The new clips didn't seem anywhere near as tight as the old ones so I'm starting to think I was given the wrong advice?

Thanks CC.
As you can imagine, that really doesn't fill me with confidence.

Well that was interesting, just fitted the kit as I had 1/2hr to spare.
Apologies for the lack of images, I just didn't think to take any.
The situation was worse than I'd thought when I had a good look.
The animals that changed the screen had not only broken/lost half the clips, but I realised they had also snapped off the locating lugs at the top and bottom of each trim piece, and had attempted to fill their holes with the black goo the windscreen is put in with. However as they'd not cleaned the muck off first the goo wasn't stuck to the body.
After cleaning the area down properly I used the self adhesive discs to cover the holes at the top and filled the holes at the bottom with some below the water line marine sealant I use to seal fittings on my boat.
I then swapped the old clips for the new ones and banged the trim back on.
It was a lot harder to get back on with the new clips, and the trim pieces are fixed much more firmly than before.
I'm also convinced that in a way I'm better off having the locating lugs removed and the holes filled properly than the rubbish foam seal that was originally round them.
