petrol in a diesel engine

Big Cry SWMBO has just called me to say she broke down on the way home so LR assist tasked, once there he asked when she last filled up.... "just down the road about 2 mile" you guest she has filled up with petrol in a diesel.... Censored Censored so the D3 is on route to the garage on a low loader. having read the tails of vow on here i am just hopeing NFU cover wrong fuel in the policy.

i have looked throught the policy terms and conditions and it dosnt state any where that they dont cover it but ....ill have to wait and see tomorow.

also hoping as she had 1/4 tank of diesel and only put in £50 of petrol in not to much damage done. but she drove about 1 1/2 thou and started to lose power so it dosnt sound good.
im of to scream and shout at something/one for a while

Sorry to hear about that. Hope your policy covers the repairs.

There are lots of threads here about the same situation and unfortunately the LR Warranty seems to insist on the full monty when it comes to rectifying the damage.

Good luck.

Your car is only a few months old as well judging by your profile Shocked ,bet swmbo is not in your good books at the moment.

Hopefully you will get it under insurance, can't see why not if it is not specifically excluded. Must check my policy now just in case

Just found an article which claims only 26% of UK insuarance companies had a specific clause against mis fuelling and couldn't find any mention of NFU, so if it is not in your policy I think you will be OK.

Hope you get it sorted and let is know how you get on as I am thinking of going with NFU come renewal.

My NFU policy says they will not pay for mechanical, electronic, electrical computer failures or breakdowns or breakages. I take that to mean misfueling causes mechanical breakdown - I hope I'm wrong

They all say that, but filling with the wrong fuel is a genuine accident, like hitting a gate post not a failure. I'll try and find the link, it was in the Telegraph in Nov 2007.

My renewal date is Wednesday and I was heading towards NFU - they were happy about a winch but not about Torqtune and were £150 dearer without either of those added Sad Sad Sad

I'm looking for Messrs. Winch, Chip and Sumpguard Ltd Whistle

Hope it works out, smac343.

Sorry to hear your news. I put 4 litres of petrol into my D3 a couple of weeks ago but realised what I'd done and didn't start the engine. The clean out cost £400 which isn't as bad as it sounds considering the work they had to do. Having run yours until it stopped the bill will be £5000 to £6000 so I hope you are covered.

SWMBO just phoned to say she spoke to the accident claim line at NFU and the operator said he doesn’t think it will be a problem as he has dealt with misfuels before and they paid up in full... so heres hoping. Bow down and praying. ill keep you updated once they have had a look tomorrow and the assessor has phoned me .....
