Pegasus deployable side steps

As some of you will be aware, I use my D4 to chauffeur guests on private guided tours of the North Highlands.

Many of my guests are ‘of an age’ that side steps are required to gain access to the truck. However, I’ve gone through two sets of OEM steps with them being damaged when I’m off road.

So I’m now considering the deployable steps sold by Pegasus 4x4.

They look ideal but my only concern is how robust the levered mechanism is considering it’s going to be exposed to salt and grime all year round.

I don’t expect many folk have these fitted to their D3 or D4 but I know that quite a few FFRR have. So my question to the collective wisdom is DOES ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE OF USING THESE POWERED STEPS OR ANY ANECDOTAL INFO ON THEIR RELIABILITY??

I’ve also put the question up on the D4 FB page too…

Thanks all

Not those ones, but the LR offering are dire. They seize up for fun, snap the brackets, and rarely work properly after they are 12 months old

Not to mention the do reduce ground clearance to the sills, if you are off road...

If you're regularly going off road I wouldn't bother - just get a caravan step to keep in the back, that's what I used for years with elderly relatives. Plus it's cheaper too Very Happy

You could opt for some tree sliders that will be rugged enough for the highlands with the benefit of looking great. Quite a few options out there and you could use some non-slip tape on them or opt for the more expensive Prospeed ones with the inserts.

Have you given thought to a set of tree sliders ?
They’re strong and protrude from the sills and they’re not going to get trashed off road.
You could always add some non slip abrasive safety tape to aid grip and protect the powder coat finish.
They can even be had with infills from Prospeed so they look like sidesteps.

Edited to add - should’ve typed quicker. Laughing
