Paintwork protection
Why pay around £300 for a paintwork protection treatment by way of your LR dealer. I have now used "Toughseal" from Splash Products on two of my Disco's and it really does do what it say's on the bottle, for a fraction of the dealers price. This two-part acrylic system takes about half a day to apply (very easy, the pre-treatment and the PTFE sealant are both just like a creamy polish) and if you do not cost in your own labour you pay around £55 and of course you know that the job has been done properly. I have just completed treating my new Disco3 today but after applying it to my previous Disco it did not need repolishing over the 5 years I owned it and 108k miles driven.
p.s. I have no connection with the manufacturer, I just want to let you know that its a good system.*Disco3 7-seat Auto

Yes.... I am beginning to wonder whether I should have spent the cash I gave to GS for Supacare, I should have bought some side rubbing strips.... Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

What's your opinion of doing the roof?
I'm interested in doing a similar sort of treatment, but can't decide if it's necessary or even feasable to do all the roof!! Hoever, if I don't, am I going to end up with different coloured panels??
Cheers

Hi Tony
What should we be looking for? The only toughseal stuff I can find on ebay is for alloy wheels, and since this claims that it should be reapplied every 3 months, it's no better than anything else on the market claiming to protect stuff!'

Hi Steve
Can't understand why you are questioning the value of treating the roof section, unless you are refering to an alpine roof. It is particularly important to protect the painted roof area as it is subject to potential damage from sun, acid rain and all the other nasties that fall from the heavens. Incidentally, the roof is probably the easist bit to do, so long as you have a stepladder.
Toughseal does not affect the apparent colour of the paintwork and apart from the extra glossy finish and improved water run-off, treated and untreated panels will be the same colour.
Hope this helps*Disco3 7-seat Auto

Hi BrianX
Try www.toughseal.co.uk I dealt with their Welshpool office (just down the road from you) and ordered by phone, was delivered in two days. They are very helpful and because I mentioned that I was applying it to a big 4x4 they supplied me with an extra bottle of the acrylic sealant f.o.c. however one bottle is plenty enough for a Disco3.*Disco3 7-seat Auto

Hi Juan Luis Martin
Yes, I have contacted Toughseal who confirm that the Toughseal product is available to Spain, all you have to do is contact them by email at support@eurochem.co.uk and they will then advise you how to place your order. The product is very easy to apply as I said in my previous posting, all done before the afternoon siesta.

Hi Juan Luis
When you place an order for Toughseal you will receive the system consisting of a "pre-treatment" that cleans and prepares the surface. This is followed by applying two coats of the PTFE sealant. There are also other aftercare products included in the pack. You do not have to specify exactly what you need, the complete treatment, together with instructions is supplied.
One thing I forgot to mention is that you should not apply the sealant in full hot sun, better to do it in the shade.
If you need any further info, you can email me direct. The photo of both cars in my gallery have been treated with Toughseal. The TD5 was done 5 years ago and was still in top condition when I sold it.
