Old car park vs roof aerial

Despite putting the car into access height, thinking that would be enough, the car lost to an access height barrier this morning. Censored Big Cry Censored Censored Censored

Feared the worst from the noise (panoramic glass roof!), thankfully just the bulbous aerial/antenna at the back of the roof is damaged.

Firstly, what does this actually do? Sat Nav, Radio & TV is still working...
https://www.disco4.com/forum/roof-fin-glued-bolted-188679.html suggests this is the phone antenna??
- Long gone are the days of phone car-kits. We connect the phone via Bluetooth. If this IS the phone antenna - why?! And assume there's no impact of repairing rather than replacing?

If I do need to replace, anyone know the part number and if it can be replaced without undoing from underneath?

Cheers!

It gets worse - it DID crack the panoramic glass roof! Censored Big Cry Censored Big Cry Censored Big Cry Censored Big Cry Censored

Don't think this is going to be covered on insurance. Anyone had to do this themselves and manage to source?

Same happened to me, my previous D4 had a smaller roof mounted antenna than my current HSE. Where I just got away with it in a car park, not so lucky in the new one. Same thing, mashed the antenna and cracked the glass roof. Insurance specifically does not cover panoramic sun roofs!

But I can claim it as an insurance repair.

However that was over 18 months ago and still have not got around to getting it sorted. Into second winter! No issues other than visible cracks, never got worse or leaked. But I must get it sorted

Thanks Dave - it hasn't shattered, spread out from the point of impact. I did wonder whether even applying some form of clear window film underneath would prevent any issues in the future. I didn't notice the cracks from above as there's some sort of covering on top anyway.

What do you mean they won't cover it, but you can claim it as an insurance repair Dave?

Going to call insurance this morning but not holding my breath.
Cheers Thumbs Up

Re insurance - apologies, as panoramic sunroofs are not covered under the windscreen cover element of my policy, I will have to make the claim and suffer the step back in the no claims bonus, although I have a protected no claims on my policy.

To be honest, I need to talk to my insurers at some point, but what I was saying was that I could not have it replaced as others have under the windscreen / glazing cover

Ah, got it. I'll see what they say - but really good to know it's not going to leak water any time soon!

Cheers Dave

When I bought my D4 I noticed it had a crack and the shark fin aerial had quite a scuff, they dealer replaced the glass (Believe it was £1000+ for parts and labour). When they replaced the glass they didn't replace the shark fin and subsequently 2 years later I found a water leak after heavy rain from this into the boot area which was pooling in the headlining near the rear light.

I had this replaced last year with a new shark fin and its been fine since, presume it was probably the gasket that had perished.
