Just got the car back from being serviced ... and got a telling off because I didn't agree to getting the brakes done ( he wrote it in his book last year that I should get them done and I said "next year" then. )
Will schedule that for later
However, it seems I have an oil leak. On the basis oils never leaks forwards or uphill it's somewhere near top front.
I've tried to take some pics but a dark fluid in a dark place doesn't make for good photos and most of it was cleaned off during a cursory look to see where it was coming from - sadly, inconclusively.
There was even some evidence of oil on the engine cover just behind the fan cowling.
Any ideas for likely culprit(s) ?.

I was just going to suggest the throttle housing. Clean it up thoroughly with brake cleaner and check again after a couple of days driving. It should then be quite evident if its the housing or Y seals.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
If you have just had it serviced check around the oil filter, if they have unscrewed it, and not let it drain for a min or two, then the oil can run down the v of the engine to the front.
Get a something to poke down the v in the engine at the rear and see if its full of oil.

After chasing leaks down the front of the engine and replacing the throttle body housing seal a couple of times, I ended up replacing the actual elbow that bolts onto the throttle body. Under investigation there were tiny cracks where the spring clips goes in that allowed into pivot and leak oil under pressure. Since doing this it's remain completely dry. It's known as the "intake duct" LR014212.Combine it with a new o-ring LR008353.
That's if that's your issue - looks like it by the oil on the coolant hose.

He said it was full of oil before he started and the engine tray was covered in it too. Had noticed level had dropped a couple of notches on the dash over the year since last service, so I think it is losing it slowly somewhere.
What else is in the V that is known to leak oil ?.

If there's that much oil leaking it's likely as Flack says to be the oil cooler yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
it stopped raining early Friday evening... made up for it later mind.
Anyway, throttle body joint is wet through on lower half of the joint so I'll start with that, get it cleaned up, and see if that was it. It's the cheaper easier option too..

You'll need to dig deeper than the throttle body Dean, as oil wet belly pans would not result from a leaking throttle body seal. Either oil has been spilled at the cooler or it has sprung a leak. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
