(Off)Road test - Grabber AT3

Well having finally wrestled my new 19 inch rims with 255/55R19 General Grabber AT3s onto the D4 (dodgy wheel nuts again) I thought I'd let y'all know how they performed.

We took the D4 down to Corby and took part in a green-lane navigation challenge so plenty of off and on road driving; did a circuit of the local Land Rover Experience course and then a circuit round the Tixover off-road site (an old quarry).

The weather was dry so there wasn't much in the way of mud to test them.

Overall my impression is they are brilliant - we sailed up the very steep sections at Tixover with almost no traction control kicking in and certainly with no loss of forward momentum - I think they compare better (more grip) than the Scorpion ATRs I've had previously.

On road handling (about 600 city and motorway miles - some in torrential rain) is much better than I expected and better than previous Grabber AT2s which used to feel a bit scary on wet roundabouts and tight bends. No noticeable increase in road noise but a small decrease in fuel economy - the M1 commute normally gives me 30 to 31 MPG on Scorpion Zeros but it was down to 28-29 on a number of journeys. Though I'd want to verify that over the longer-term.

So overall, so far, IMO they are better than the ATR and the older AT2. I'll report back after the next green-laning trip.

They may well be a serious contender to knock the BFG from the top spot?! (Though no chance of getting those for the D4...)

Sounds quite good! Do they really come with white side wall text like in the marketing pictures?

They sound and look good, rain and mud report will tell though I think plenty on here have vouched for them now.

By the way you can get a BFG KO2 on a D4 but you will need 18" Compomotive PD1881 IIRC as they are in my shed at the mo.

Tixover is a great place, Did you meet Edd Cobley at LRE or Tixover?

I also have the AT3s and love them!

I thought Tixover had been shut down following some incidents that involved Police attendance.

Edit: I think I've confused it with Yarwell. Embarassed

After spending a fortnight in the Pyrenees driving the tracks I’m glad I have the BFGs no mud great traction but loads of rocks and stone, very few cuts on the tyres and no damage, can’t comment on other tyres as we all had BGGs

Thanks! Looked into this slightly and it turns out that in some sizes the lettering really is white.

I got my D3 about 2 months back and had GG AT3s fitted soon after. I have noticed that the traction control fires when cornering on road, either wet or dry or left or right hand bends and always at a moderate speed.

I didn't have the old Pirelli Scorpion's on for long but didn't have this issue so I'm wondering if it's the GG's but can't really believe they would be struggling under these conditions. Any suggestions what as to what could be causing this?
