No proper off road rear recovery point.

That's it the Disco is dead.
On road rear recovery is an eye bolt.
No off road recovery point available.
The new Discovery 5 is a 2014 FFRR with a different body.
 In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Do you have a link to where you found out about the eye bolt?

I don't think anyone will dispute that it's built the same way as a current FFRR. I'll be with a FF today, im going to check to see if that one has grown up recovery points.

Does it have a decent front recovery point or is that an eye bolt too?

However! As far as I can remember the Disco 3/4 were the only Discoveries produced with factory fitted off road recovery points welded to the chassis? The D1 and 2 had to have aftermarket jate rings bolted through the chassis to qualify as proper recovery points for RTV events?

I've seen it for myself.
There is a proper front recovery eye bolted to the front sub frame.
The rear is an eye bolt that screws into something that's behind the bumper accessible via a pop out plastic flap.
 In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

There is a rear point too. I had my hand on it last Sunday. It's a big loop fixed to the rear of the chassis.

I went out in the FF this morning, but couldn't see any sign of proper recovery points, but there was a lot of plastic that would need to have been removed to find if there was anything. Sorry, inconclusive.

When Andrew is talking about recovery he is naturally including the scenario of a full snatch out of sand \ mud ...what we were told last night is to recover it from the tow hitch ...this flies in the face of all the advice we have ever been given about not doing that ...and as Andrew pointed out it might be fine to do a straight line recovery but what if you couldn't ? ...that tow hitch would not support extreme forces from an angle.

Acknowledging that its half a ton lighter ..it will nevertheless still be possible to get it stuck. The answer was that you "can't have everything I'm afraid" and we were gently pointed towards the forthcoming Defender.

Put all the terrain response, low range, deeper wading depth, etc in it and not a proper hook!

Obviously don't expect you to get stuck... it's that good Shocked

We saw and we're told the same. However I looked underneath and there was a plastic panel that came off with two thumb screws and from what I could see looking up and feeling there was also a solid ring attached to the subframe. I diD not remove the plastic trim so cannot be 100% sure need to get the trim off to be 100%.

That's for on road recovery not a 'can someone drag me back off the crest of this sand dune' recovery.
